Arizona Chickens

@meetthebubus I'm sorry to hear about your little one, I hope it pulls through. One of mine had a rough first night and I almost lost her, the next day was touch and go, but she made it! I hope yours does the same. I am really excited for your new chicken journey, you will be getting some nice colored eggs! And they are a very sweet breed. Good luck :hugs

Tomorrow is hatch day. All Svart Honas. This is first batch we have had that 100% of the eggs have made it this far. Hoping for our best Hatch. Very happy with the quality of the source parents and chicks from last batch. Anyone in AZ interested in Svart Hona chicks please let me know. Limited supply my incubator only holds 28.

Best hatch for us so far. 28 in, one early quiter, one didn’t, 26 hatched. Svart Hona chicks anyone?

I hope that you find someone who wants your SH's. I am wondering about those French(American) Breese. What color of eggs, what size, and how much the hatching eggs will cost me. What can I say, I'm just a hatching addict! :lau

Hey @cactusrota If you want some of his SH's hatching eggs, you can pay him and then he could bring them to me to hatch. Then you could pick them up over here. You have my regular email addy, so you can let me know what you want to do. I do have 2 incubators here now, and I need to try out that new one that I bought a few months ago.

I hatched 7. 4 weeks ago. Trying to get some laying hens so they can be my third breed. I might try and get some eggs to put in when these 28 CCLB hatch. Want me to get extras for you?

thank you so much! I am looking forward to this.

Sadly 'little chica' didn't make it, i checked on her an hour ago or so and she was for sure gone, lifeless. I took her out of the brooder, at least the other 19 are full of life and running around the brooder, sweeping the pine shavings aside as they run super happy they are no longer too cold and walking on the wire mesh of their cage at the store.

funny tidbit, the bubus heard the little ones as i walked the box into the house and they weren't happy with me, but soon forgot about what they heard and happily at the treats i brought to them... lol

I moved my last hatch of chicks out to the chicken cabin last week, into their own pen but right next door to one of my other flocks. Within two days I had three hens go broody. Ah....the power of suggestion.

I just thought I'd share a few photos of the two Silver Grey Dorkings I'm incubating eggs for right now.

First, Wesley - I actually never planned to breed this boy because in spite of his incredibly sweet and affectionate personality, he was downright skinny and had a purple sheen to his black feathers instead of green. Then I separated him from the rest of the flock, including from the dominant rooster, and suddenly Wesley became more "studly". His body filled out nicely and as he molted the new feathers showed the coveted green sheen instead of purple. He's still not as large as my other boy, but I decided to give him a chance just in case his stunted development was more about not tending to his needs early on instead of poor genetics.

And now, Wesley's number one gal, Celine - This girl was my favorite from the start because she was so incredibly affectionate, but like Wesley she was skinny and skittish of the rest of the flock, often deprived of feed. As soon as I removed her from the Dorking pen and put her with Wesley it was obvious that there was some true love going on there. Those two literally snuggled with each other on the ground within five minutes of their union and Wesley positively dotes on Celine. She too has filled out beautifully and is so much calmer, even as she free-ranges with my NN girls, and she was the first SGD to start giving me eggs again. She STILL isn't too keen about using any of the nesting boxes, but she literally runs to me and then guides me to where she laid her egg so I may collect it, and then simply wants to be held and snuggled as a reward for her efforts.
