Arizona Chickens

So fun things to know about roosters

Here's another fact as seen in action by mr. Roo bubu, during sit down special treat time, the rooster will corral away the hens who are not currently laying, so that the ones that are will get the most treats. Currently all are laying so he just stays away to allow them to eat. But during molting season, he sure did a lot of corraling as most weren't laying back then!
:lau Mr. Roo bubu, you're adorable! Love it!

@meetthebubus your rooster name gave me a chuckle :) Something about naming chickens is so fun. I also like your "Mohawkie"- my BO Waffles has little puffs of feather on her head and it totally reminds me of a mohawk.
We did not get any rain, just nasty wind. We were working in the garden until about noon and then it was just too much. I have been saving and drying out seeds so I'm looking forward to the Arizona gardening thread @cactusrota

No rain here either! Today it is real cloudy but no looking like rain yet. We did get some of that Kansas wind though. The girls were hugging anything that would cut the wind for them. This is when I wish I'd built a giant covered run for the girls - we've had more wind in the last few years - so many changes in weather lately. Me - I spent the time indoors do some of that yucky housework stuff. Stay safe friends.

Any AZ chicken people out there? I am looking for some advice on raising chicks in the desert. I'm in Mesa. Does it get too hot out here? I have four 20 day old chicks, 3 Buff Orps and 1 leghorn. Do we need to do anything special here

Yes, Im in Casa Grande. They need lots of shade, I put frozen water bottles in their waterers when it gets closer to summer. Air circulation helps alot too. They can get easily overheated out here. Good luck !

Yeah lol, smells like rain too, but nothing yet

That's the way it always works! Thinking about it now, I guess it's not a bad idea. You can get a good meal while waiting for your laundry. I heard they have good food. Then again that could be it's the only place to eat in town.
That sounds like one of those places featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, but I think it also had a car wash.
