Arizona Chickens

We are getting such a nice rain...it started yesterday at about 5 and just won't stop! There is a fog rolling in and covering the mountains. The rain is very light but the desert is soaked, and the chickens are happily playing in the little drips that fall through the roof. The dogs are using the weather as an excuse to sleep inside all day!

It started here around 3pm yesterday and has been a nonstop Seattle type drizzle ever since. Still raining now. We've had a minimum of 2" here at the house. I went out to check on the birdies and had to put down some 2x4's to walk through some of the bogs that their feet were dissappearing in. Some smart birds are staying undercover and dry, the rest are wandering around looking like drown rats!!:p Haha!
The ducks are loving it, though! :wee I think we are making up for the lack of winter rain all at once....

Yeah....I'm downright soggy here in Green Valley. My chicken yard is a mucky, muddy, slippery and heavily puddled mess....and I kinda like it. It makes morning chicken chores a bit unpleasant as I search for dry patches to set out their food, but we needed the rain and my chickens seem determined to stand outside and get completely waterlogged while they can. The soft rain water is as good for their feathers as it is for my garden though, so more power too them.

My 55 gallon rain barrel and three five gallon buckets are now overflowing with rain water, making me realize that I really need to get busy at installing a gutter system and rainwater collection cisterns before the summer rains come.

Hey guys, hope this isnt out of context for this thread, but its nice to meet others from AZ. Been looking for a couple each, Barred Rock and White Leghorn hens to add to my flocks. Young laying age would be nice, my girls are all between 7 months and a year old. Didnt want to stress on adding chicks to the flock. I know thats not the best idea. Thanks, and hope you guys are treading water lol.

I don't carry those 2 breeds that you are looking for, but good luck in finding someone else that does and might have extra's.
