I've got another question...I got the misters out today. They felt great, and really cooled things off in the run, but a lot of the little nozzle parts are clogged with calcium (our well produces hard water). Can I just use CLR on them to clear out the calcium?

That's what I use, plus I have extra nozzels. That way if there is one or more that are clogged up, I just replace those, and then bring the clogged ones in the house to soak. Thos then go into where I keep the spares at. The mister's will draw in a ton of flies, though.

Thank you! I love eating over there. I always get the Prime Rib. I really didn't have much left this time to bring home to my dog Buster. I also tried out that lemon poppyseed cake with cream frosting that they had this time, and it had the honey tossed strawberries on it. It was pretty good. Stopped by the Cold Stone Creamery after that to pick up some ice-cream to bring back home.

For you guys that are running misters, do your chickens not have shade? My set up is such that after 10:30 or so they are in full shade in their bunker. It’s really an open-air coop/run with a roost bar.

Mine have shade places, but some days it get really hot with no wind blowing to speak of. I watch to see if they are panting to know if I need to turn my misters on for them or not for now. As it get's even hotter, I can set the timer.

@Salty Skroob mine have shade, and the coop is completely shaded all day. Last summer they would always retreat to the coop at about 3, then come back out around 5. For some reason this year they have been staying in the run all day long until roosting time. It has shade too, but I don't know why they have changed up their routine this year.

Thank you all for the mister advice. I need to get some extra nozzles! And I totally forgot about the flies, last year they were on the misters like a magnet. If it's not bees, it's flies

i hope so, thats heartening to hear bc he still allows me to grab him (sometimes) and once i do he'll sit on my lap and enjoy a petting and close his eyes, etc soo... hopefully its just a phase of hormones coming in roo was always a gentlemen

i had a rooster before that would jump up to sit with me and then one day he decided he would turn his head and BITE my finger that was petting him, and hard too, that was the end of that, he soon became a tyrant yet we did have a understanding and he left me alone as long as i didn't touch him. we had to keep him in a seperate pen so the other rooster brothers could eat and he found a rag and would always mate with the rag

also in BROODY news, my semi broody Punky is not longer staying in her box, ever since the integration I figured that between goldie being mean to her and Roo's over attention she was just hiding out and now she can hide in the crowd and is enjoying life better!

also little clucky, normally 2nd to last on pecking order is enjoying being in charge of all the little ones showing them she's boss, poor little ones are not enjoying that...

I have a Bresse rooster that would charge at me just to bite me. He never kicked, but was a biter for sure. Once I gave him some girls at around 6-7 months old he totally changed his tune. He still doesn't like to be touched, but I can totally trust him now. Each one is different. My main flock rooster Remmy charged and tried to attack me a number of times from about the 4-7 months old range. I actually had to kick back a couple times. Now he's realized I'm his buddy and works WITH me on alot of things. I guess it's up to you if you want to work through the "teenage phase" or not. You never really know what you're gonna get on the other side until you get there..

No, that one on my shoulder is a little pullet! About 3 weeks old when the pic was taken. ALL of the Bresse that hatched this time around were pullets except for one possible cockerel that went to a friend of mine. And someone else that just hatched out a bunch of eggs I sold them said the majority of them hatched out as pullets, too!! I don't know if it's the season, or the hens I have, but no complaints from the cheap seats!!!

We do too, as we're over the other side of Mt Graham and get alot more wind over here because of the way the ranges are positioned. It gets just as hot, but that breeze makes all the difference...

Thank's! Yes, you are right, as I hardly go anywhere except out to the coop and to check the mail. Hubby bought me a couple of new summer shorts for my birthday.
