Arizona Chickens

I think marshmellow the ee roo is going go be a jerk he's not afraid go growl at me or corral me now
He's really bad at mating, hasn't done it yet that I've seen but he does grab at neck feathers as if he's trying

@FeatherPugs was right that older hens will put a wayward roo in their place
This morning Marshmellow was holding onto Fuzzy (ee) and she was crying and Miss Punky (buff) came up and gave him a strong peck and he backed off I've seen her peck Mr Roo before too :lau

If marshy becomes too mean he'll end up bunking with China and she fights with Rottweilers so i dont think he wants that....;)
Ya know I've seen some young roo's start out that way for awhile, and then grow out of it when they get older.. like 7-8 months old. There are techniques to keep his attitude to a minimum until then, but separating in an attached pen until he grows out of it might be an option... Like fencing off a 6x6 area with cover just for him. He is handsome, and if allowed to grow out of his teenage punk phase, may turn out to be a really nice big boy.

I used a swamp cooler without incident. That said, I have problems with Africanized bees at my house or business every single year. Last year was the worst....a super aggressive group of over 20,000 bees right outside my front door. We were literally trapped inside the house. The bee removal guy wound up having to exterminate them because they were so insanely aggressive.
That is terrifying  I'm glad you and your animals were not attacked.

i hope so, thats heartening to hear bc he still allows me to grab him (sometimes) and once i do he'll sit on my lap and enjoy a petting and close his eyes, etc soo... hopefully its just a phase of hormones coming in roo was always a gentlemen

i had a rooster before that would jump up to sit with me and then one day he decided he would turn his head and BITE my finger that was petting him, and hard too, that was the end of that, he soon became a tyrant yet we did have a understanding and he left me alone as long as i didn't touch him. we had to keep him in a seperate pen so the other rooster brothers could eat and he found a rag and would always mate with the rag :idunno

@cactusrota do you think that chick on the shoulder is a roo?

also in BROODY news, my semi broody Punky is not longer staying in her box, ever since the integration I figured that between goldie being mean to her and Roo's over attention she was just hiding out and now she can hide in the crowd and is enjoying life better!

also little clucky, normally 2nd to last on pecking order is enjoying being in charge of all the little ones showing them she's boss, poor little ones are not enjoying that... :hmm

I've got another question...I got the misters out today. They felt great, and really cooled things off in the run, but a lot of the little nozzle parts are clogged with calcium (our well produces hard water). Can I just use CLR on them to clear out the calcium?

@SonoranChick You can use CLR but I usually use vinegar and I keep any extras so I can change them out during the summer months. Our well water is hard too - extremely tasty and healthy but hard. Oh yeah - my DH just reminded me - they also have (usually) that cleaner in the kits. I have not a clue where my stuff is …. never tried to use it!!
