Do you do surgery on the foot? I don't mind soaking and wrapping, it's the cutting I'm unsure about  I hope Gus is feeling better soon!

I’m a nurse so I don’t mind the cutting part. I did cut the one foot and was expecting all this stuff to come out but nothing really came out. I’m just soaking and wrapping.

On the bumblefoot - you generally don't get gooey/runny gunk - like pus. Usually its a hard kernel of gunk. It truly is weird. Sometimes you might not get a kernel but a pus that is more like bubblegum than anything. Mostly I've had the kernels.
Thanks everyone for the input re the nail polish. I didn't think about the pecking thing. Don't need to start something like that. I can use bands and it would probably be safer all around.

That's exactly what I pulled out of the white leghorn- a hard yellow kernel. She has a scab again on that spot though.

Does anyone routinely dust their chickens or coop with food grade DE? ALSO do you use poultry spray as preventative measure just in case?

I don't think I have mites in the run but I want to do a preventative spray and cleaning
