Arizona Chickens

It's good to see you over here in our AZ. thread! I hope that you have been enjoying your birds!
I have been thank you. But I have a dilemma. To many drakes and not enough females. I’m trying to rehome three of my males. They just started tag teaming one of them and I’m afraid they are going to hurt her or kill her. Looks like I’m going to have the same problem with my geese if I don’t find a female for one of my ganders soon.

Good luck with trying to find homes for males. I only have chickens over here, and have had to turn to butchering the cockerels for my freezer because no one wants them, and I end up with too many.

I know. That’s what I’m afraid of. So worse case I guess my friend will be having three dinners. Because I can’t do it myself. Hahahaha

I know what you mean. It's hard to have to do, but it end's up being something that has to be done to keep peace in the flock, and the hen's from being over-bred and torn up so bad that it can kill the girls. I had 2 roosters and a cockerel before that needed being done, and had to pay someone $8.00 each to come here and do them so that I could watch them and learn how to do it myself. Now I have 4 more that need being done, but it's been so hot. :he

Edit: I noticed in another thread you were asking if you could put chicken hatching eggs under your broody female duck. I agree with what they told you there. What breed of chickens do you have?

I don’t really know I have a mixture of hens that were given to me. I have some red ones. Some that are grey and white a couple white ones that lay green eggs. And some black ones. They have never gotten broody and I have had them for a year I got them full grown. They have been laying since I got them. I have collected the eggs daily so maybe that’s why they never got broody.

Are you trying to expand your flock of them, or just trying to get a few younger one's that will be able to replace older one's?

So

since I have five drakes and only three ducks. What is the suggested ratio of drakes to ducks. I currently have one crested drake and one created duck. I have one Cayuga drake and one Cayuga duck. And I have three Rouen drakes. And one Swedish blue duck. I was planning on getting rid of the Rouen drakes and keeping the rest.

@Lrosell31 Ok. I usually hatch mine out in an incubator, and I have 2 of those. I also still have 2 mixed breed pullets here that hatched on May 17th that are available if someone wants them. Daddy was a Crested Cream Legbar, and momma was a Splash Australorp, so the pullets should be laying mint green eggs when they start.

I will probably be doing another hatch within a month or so, and that next batch will have some Naked Neck crosses in there (White NN roo over hens).
