Arizona Chickens

Macbot that is my interpretation as well. I live in Chandler and there is no 5 chicken allowed rule. Instead it's more like you are OK as long as your HOA and neighbors are OK. There is a distance factor that unfortunately is very difficult to abide by unless you have a huge lot and are in a minority of housing developments in Chandler.

It's a known risk I take where any day somebody could send me a notice and come knocking. I do my best to conceal the area among bougainvillea and citrus trees.

Yep, same here. We should be closet friends.......whenever looking for chicken breeds, I want a quiet one.

Good evening from central AZ!
We have been tinkering with chickens since February with our first flock. Started with 6 Reds and 3 EE then 10 Amerucauna or which ever spelling you want for the ear muffed ones... from a breeder. Found out the hard way that my old husky is able to sneak up on chickens, at 13 yo you would think the chickens would get away but she got 5 and that showed the younger dog that they were fun and could be eaten. So we picked up 5 more chicks from Tractor Supply lost one on their first day outside. (larger chickens drank the water stand dry and the chicks couldn't reach the big water peckers yet) we were given a chicken from a friend down the road after her flock was destroyed by a predator that made its way into the coup. She went about a month not laying then started back up at almost an egg a day until today, when I got home from work she was dead in the coup. No wounds no damage to her that I can find and there was still food/water/shade my chickens have the full yard to run so it wasn't that she was stuck. She had laid and egg this morning and I had just cleaned out the roosting area of the coup 3 days ago. So I have no clue what she died from. Anyways Hi !

Welcome and sorry ro here you lost a chicken. Possible reasons out of my head are heat or stung by scorpions, bit by spiders, snakes and such. Are there any wounds on the body?

Storm surprise at 4 am today it was much appreciated bc boy did it cool, down!

Lots of cuddles this morning with the bubus bc it was so cool, and breezy a blessing before it heats up temporarily

Anyone else get rain?

Yes we did too, although later in tge morning. It's so nice out there now, cool and with the breeze, not muggy.

@SonoranChick How's your pregnancy doing? Is the baby moving around much?
How sweet of you to ask :D Baby girl is moving around SO much! I love feeling her kick. I've been feeling great. Tomorrow I will be 25 weeks pregnant, so over half way there! It is so wild to think that there will be a tiny person here before thanksgiving.

Exciting! I remember my daughter moved around so much I never had to count movements lol

We got a big show of lightening, lots of thunder and a downpour of rain between 2-4 am. It was so loud! I peeked outside and our dogs were huddled on the steps...we have a big porch so they weren't getting wet but they looked pitiful so I let them in. Doggy slumber party at my house.
Awww they hate storms for sure, my dog the other night was worried we weren't going inside when there was lightning far away

She doesn't mind being handled at all so I can definitely monitor her this way. Thank you so much for your advice, I really appreciate it. Honestly I have just been focused on her big crop and neglected to check other areas like her thighs. When checking along the keel should I be feeling to the left and right of it? I can feel her actual keel bone, but that's normal right?

Yes, feel on either side of the keel. It's the muscle size you're interested in.

And I'm more than happy to help whenever I can. :hugs

Yes, and it came down pretty good here. Thunder and lightning. Power went out, but was back on when I got up again. I bet the home phone will be on the fritz again, since the company puts the outside boxes where they get wet.

Hi everyone. Hope you're all having a good weekend.

@SonoranChick My kids are probably older than you but I still remember those first little flutters :loveLater my daughter literally kicked a book I was reading off my belly.

Fortunately for us our dogs could care less about storms. Frankie was growling at the thunder though :gig

I'm freezing more water jugs this weekend in preparation for the excessive heat next week. Going to pick up some shade cloth for the coop door today and get it added tomorrow.

After the morning rain I was worried it would be horrid outside, but with the breeze it's not bad so far. Enjoy it while you can :)
