Arizona Chickens

It might not be a bad idea to get some copper sulfate to put in the water for a while. (It will turn the water blue and kills off bacteria and algae too.) A little goes a very long way, and during the summer months I always add it to at least one of the water containers here. Copper sulfate not only provides copper supplement to the chickens, which often helps alleviate egg shell problems, but also kills a whole host of bacterium, viruses, etc. I use 1/2 TBSP per 5 gallon community water container.

Copper sulfate is also a fantastic soaking treatment for bumblefoot or other lesions, and can be applied directly to a wound prior to bandaging. It's another one of those old school, old-timer farmer's secrets. I believe you can get it at tractor supply.

Thank you!

We got quite the down pour last night, tons of lghtening and rain! Everything was soaked this morning. I know the chickens were already roosting so they didn't get wet, but maybe they got a little sprinkle in the run this morning because their feathers are so soft today  especially Artemis, I could sit and pet those Australorp feathers all day!

Ok, since today is Sunday (and start of a new week), I will be washing up and refrigerating my 15 fertile hatching eggs I collected from last week tonight, unless someone give's me a holler for them. The eggs laid today goes to the start of this weeks collection.

We had lightening and thunder and some rain - not a lot of rain but enough to wet things down a bit PLUS it did not reach 100 today! Humid though.

And by contrast, I now have lakefront property. I went out to close the windows in the chicken cabin, and found myself stuck on the porch with some very soggy chickens as we watched the torrential downpour including hail.

Yes, it seem's that all of the good rain is going to you all, and quits before it reaches me?
