Arizona Chickens

I got all of the wet wood chips out of the nest box. Now it's drying out and it will be refilled by tonight. Hubby still needs to fix the leaky roof but I don't anticipate any more rain in the next few days so I suppose I'll give him a break with the nagging :D It will get done. The wood chips in the run have dried out thankfully. Leave it to Mother Nature to dump near-record rainfall on us a week after I finally decided on wood chips lol! I just kept thinking, "monsoon season is over, we probably won't get rain for months"...WRONG!
On a sad note, we made the difficult choice to put our old dog down next Monday. He has been having seizures and is losing control of his bowels. He is not eating much and can barely walk. We know it is time, and he had a wonderful life. But it is still really difficult. We will be spoiling him lots until Monday.
@meetthebubus Hooray for Picasso! I'm so happy he has moved into the flock and is doing well.

Thanks! So sorry about your dog, I always dread stuff like that thoughts to you, try not to do too much as your time nears!

I have my first case of wry neck in Matilda. She was fine on Sunday outside most of the day. Monday she was kinda quiet but I thought she was getting close to laying her first egg. Today I got home and picked her up to put her outside to clean their pen and she couldn’t hold her head up. Gave her some vitamins and bread soaked in electrolyte water. She fought me so still got some spunk in her. Ran to Walgreens and got selenium and vitamin E and gave her a dose of each. Going to check on her in an hour to see how she is doing.

Wouldn’t be bad but I’m going out of town from Friday til Wednesday and hubby is going with me. BlueBaby the sweetie she is would keep her but I think my son will be able to handle her.

Good thoughts and prayers please and thank you.

Safe travels! Sorry she is ill!

Absolutely, we wouldn't have it any other way.

I know it's hard, but try to stay as calm as possible. You know how dog senses can be. I had to go through this with a couple of older dog's before in my life. Fetish had cancer, and Richie the other one was like yours and had a series of small strokes. He got where he couldn't find his food or water dish, and he walked into walls. When you take yours in on Monday, give him a hug for me.

Any silkie owners in here? How old would you say they are before you can sex them? I really want one cuz they so freakin adorable! But I only want a pullet

The other day I saw a strange wild bird... maybe I just didn't know about this but I still think it strange...
It was a large turtle dove, dark though nearly black, it had a large Crest though, flew ontop of the house, was not afraid of us, and stranger yet it had feathered feet... ever see a dark turtle dove with large black Crest and feathered feet?
I keep both species ,,,, Which one did it look like more???:idunno

@cavemanrich
the doves here I guess aren't called turtle doves so i was incorrect in that part, but below is one example mourning doves, white winged, etc. It was very dark colored the white around the eye really stood out bc of that it had a black crest that stood out bigger than my Easter egger crests but the bird was average dove size. It had black feathered feet. Wasn't scared of us from 5 ft away, but when we went to go get the camera it flew away

I'm thinking either someone's escaped experiment, like @cactusrota said or a migratory bird.. weird though I think
