Arizona Chickens

Yes, now is the time to prepare with what you will need for them while it's still cool enough with having to do any labor out there. It's a lot easier doing thing's without the sweat running into your eye's.

Ain't that the truth! I also added some big feed bowls to my list to get for more wading options this summer. I only have 2 and they don't like the kiddie pool. Good thing Frankie does.

That's another thing that I want to get from them this year, some big plastic or rubber water pans. I got a hold of one of those big plastic water catching pans that they sit water heater's on. I plan to set it up with water in it or them to walk though, instead of running the mister's again. The mister's make it too muddy down at that other end of the pen, plus the monsoon make's it even muddier because it's already wet. :he

I only used the mister in the coop last year but it made it soggy and humid in there at night. I might let the chickens use this other coop at night in the summer if it's cooler.

Thought about getting a new mister for them, but at sometime this summer I am going to end up with to many chickens to fit that area, so will have to extend the shade cloth. Moved Sir Poops a lot to the TSC coop today, he's not exactly happy, one of my older red hens really wasn't happy, I was happy about the wire being between them..lol, I would have had to murder a chicken, was sitting there watching them right now, I think one of my younger red hens was over trying to mother him, tell him it was time to come in the coop for bed. I'll watch him and them close over the next few weeks.

I have another broody girl in the breaker on her second day. Let her out at dinner feed and she didn't even stop to drink water - straight to the nest! Guess its another day or so for her!! I'm looking around - want to put another roost out by the back side of the bamboo. They go there in the afternoons. We'll see what's out there. I'm good at scrounging stuff!!

I'm about to candle mine that are 7 day's in now. I've got Naked Neck mixes, and some silkie egg's in there (32 total).

Edited update: Done candling. All 32 egg's are showing development. I'm glad that I decided to use this incubator that has the automatic turner in it. My other incubator wasn't doing well on my last hatch attempt.

I've decided to let any broodies do their thing this year. It's so much less work for me to let them do all the work. :D

Love my incubator with auto turner.. I'd never remember to turn them like they should be..

My friend lost her chick last night that I gave her, I lost one today out of the one's I'd bought at Tractor Supply, I think I know what happened though, "The Post Office" the chicks were shipped, they were suppose to call and didn't, the babies didn't get dropped at the store till 3pm.. Lady told me they lost a good bit of that shipment, :hit they replaced the two I'd lost.. I don't think that the lady appreciated I brought one of the bodies back..lol.. told her since it was the second of mine, I thought she might want to send it back to the hatchery. Hoover is who their's is I believe. So now the one's remaining from my purchase and my two new ones are currently in sanitized totes drinking electrolytes with vitamins. Not taking any chances if I can help it. They are in a guestroom, so if I start to panic that much, I can sleep in there with them..lol.
