Arizona Chickens

Yep - posted a few days or so ago...... 75 miles away! My yard went on lock down and I have this posted outside the door to the yard.
Yikes.. even 75 miles is to close for comfort for me.. I normally go to the feed store here in the Valley or to the Kingman Tractor Supply, because of where this moron is, I went to bullhead.. I figured it was a safer bet..maybe not fool proof, but if they are stupid enough to willingly bring in possible sick animals, they are probably to lazy to drive into Bullhead.

Set this out for the dog and chicks stole it? Hahah hmm then it was the funniest thing the dog kept moving it and the chickens would come everytime she set it down... So i read about it a little. Ham is ok, but not a lot, to much salt. I had no idea chickens love meat so much, I also gave em some left over turkey. Just wanted to add I also read if a chicken is bleeding get it away from the others cause they will most likely kill it if you dont remove it.

I often freeze a ham bone and give it to them when its hot, hot, hot. They love it and it gets more water in them. Mostly mine get chicken and turkey - maybe a little beef here and there. I usually save it for molt time as that is when they seem to need the extra protein for their feathers. I do have one girl that needs more protein than the rest all the time so I just get her and give her some scrambled eggs with the shells and all. That's how I take care of my extra eggs!! Sometimes I boil them and just squash them. Bottom line is they LOVE their extra protein!

Whenever we have turkey, and are finished carving it,,,,,,,,,,,, the carcass goes to the hens. They busy themselves and pick it CLEAN:thumbsup
I include all the skin as well. Only thing that I REMOVE,,,, are the tendons in the drumsticks. I also do not give any turkey drumstick meat to small children. I carefully wolf those down myself, being careful with those tendons. Anything leftover without choking hazard goes to the hens.

My chickens like ground beef or turkey, canned salmon but not tuna.

Chickens are not vegetarians, they are omnivores, and do much better when they get some animal proteins on a regular basis. The proteins in chicken feed come from soy not because it's better for them, but because its more economical. I always throw the bones back to them after a chicken dinner.. some people are uncomfortable with that, but it's very normal for them. Bugs and fish proteins count too (why they like mealworms so much), and when I do fermented feed I try to add pond fish pellets. They do very well when I do that.
