Arizona Chickens

So sorry for your loss. I also am in Kingman and are getting a late start due to family issues. We are expecting 9 baby chicks to come into this poor empty coop. Can hardly wait. Any advice for these chicks is appreciated. Looks like it will be a nice warm week for them to start out in. View attachment 1793896

Welcome! Nice coop! What breed or breed's are you getting?

I used to have Australorp's before I started doing my Naked Neck's. The Australorp's do go broody and want to hatch chick's. Mine picked the hottest time in the summer to try to do it. I sold all of my Australorp's.
Thanks for the info! Maybe I will look into another breed. I have had several different breeds and liked them all! I need quiet chickens so I don't upset my neighbors.

Hen's can get pretty noisy with the egg song when they are laying egg's.

Yes they can! I had 2
Ameraucana's and they were the loudest chickens I've ever had. I won't be getting any more of them!

I'm glad that I live on enough land that the neighbor's don't complain about mine.

I am getting 2 each Easter Eggers,Australorp,Golden Comet and Dominique. Also 1 Easter Egger rooster

That's a good start to a mixed flock!

We own our place but I would love to have land someday. My neighbors are really pretty good. My husband just worries that they may get to loud and upset someone. It really doesn't bother me.:)

@Shellysstuff7 Welcome - don't think I've done that yet. I've been up to my eyeballs in doctor appts for other folks and my DH. I have had a number of Aussies and they have been good. My oldest is 7ish - She disciplines the flock if needed. I do not keep a rooster - my preference. I also have had Orpingtons - I do enjoy them - I only have one left who is 5/6. I also have NN that are eye candy - mixed with barred rock, Delaware, Sussex - I love them and they do heat well plus are good layers and meat birds. I have some EEs as well. Right now I have 30 hens. Not everyone lays everyday so the eggs are busy but not out of control!!
@Happychi2019!! Welcome to you too! I love Dominiques. They are cheeky though - I have one girl that is magic and has figured how to get out (only when I'm not looking) and knows where the in-door to the yard is!! Cheeky! Your coop is beautiful. Sorry about your previous hens. I've always said the worse predator we have is dogs. All my dogs get chicken training so they don't bother the chickies. My last big girl (we lost her about 7 months ago to cancer) would go in the yard and all the girls would walk all over her. She was a love. Our current rescue chug tolerates them because they have good poop!! hahahaha......
I still have two broody hens - both EEs. One is a year old and the other is 5/6 - AND they are hard, hard, hard to break. I didn't even dig them out of their digs and put them back in the cage tonight. Bad me - probably doesn't help. Stay happy all......

So sorry for the loss of your chickens, that is an awful thing to happen. :( My mom has a black Australorp , had two actually, they were kind of standoffish to me, one passed away earlier this year ( kidney stones, 6 YO, nursed her for 5 weeks, but she had other complications, we had to put her to sleep). Right now the other is my Bestest Friend when she sees the meal worm container coming. :) I think it was an Australorp rooster that my mom ha that was super nice. I got another Australorp chick this spring, the older ones name was Twiggy, and in memory of her I named my new one Leaf. I really wanted a blue one, but that wasn't in the cards.
