@cactusrota tried to get pics of them all at lunch today. I'm not currently feeding FF but planning to now that it's getting hot. I've been training the chicks that food is in the coop for now due to the pigeons.

In the summer i feed mostly wet/fermented feed which can't go in standard feeders. Theres still some layer pellets in the hanging feeders most of the time but the wet feed goes in planter trays, old cake pans, and dog dishes. We are not ashamed of our cracker ways around here.
:highfive: excellent ..!!!:clap, I do the same feeding fermented feed, its great & lowered my feed bill by half,:thumbsup plus I use what ever works, I keep some layer pellets in the hanging feeders most of the time, but the wet food helps to keep my flock hydrated so the wet food is best in AZ summers! but im always recycling things, old cast iron pans are great because they don't get turned over so easy:thumbsup ;) :D ....lol... old fry pans, dog dishes or what ever will hold up in the long run, so if I find them they are in my recycling program..!! ;) :) :wee:D

Awwwwwww!!!!! Look at all those happy healthy babies! So awesome!

Morning Everyone.. been away for a while, hubby and I took a trip and now back to the fun.. Our house/critter sitter did a wonderful job of taking care of everyone, Speed Racer behaved himself, so he's not going to freezer camp at the moment. Chick's have grown so much, it's hard to recognize who's who among the flock. Tonight is time to candle the broody's eggs, she's on day 12. Trying to decide if I break out the 24 count incubator or just wait.. with her eggs hatching I'll have 36 chickens, of course extra roo's will be offered up for rehoming and then if no takers, I will be adding to the freezer at 1 y.o. hoping all are staying cool.

I'm glad that everything went ok for you. Yes, it is getting hot. I have to keep running out there every couple of hours to check on the flock, making sure water is topped off for them, and that broody is ok. She's still sitting in the box. I'm keeping the fresh laid egg's picked up also.

Welcome back starri. Glad your sitter did a good job. I hope you enjoyed your trip! Why are you thinking about taking your broodys eggs? Heat?

It's supposed to be damn hot down here by next week, 108!

Do the chicks she raises struggle in the heat?

That I can't answer for you, because I sold them all. But when I did have them Australorp's, I never let the hen's hatch any egg's. I always took them every day. If I wanted to hatch chick's, I already have incubator's and a brooder, and can do it in the house in the spare room where the heat can be regulated.
