Arizona Chickens

@cactusrota I'm pretty sure I ended up with an exact 50/50 split of roos to pullets from the eggs that hatched at Easter. Three boys are crowing in the mornings now, too cute! They sound like a bunch of teenagers with their croaky voices.

It look's like you will soon be having a freezer full of the boy's soon then?

@BlueBaby we did lose the barnevelder a while back but thankfully the red star pulled through and and still with us. So I am down to nine. Which is plenty for us right now but when we are ready for more I do want to go with naked necks. I just feel so bad for them in this heat. Some seem to tolerate it better than others, but you all have definitely talked me into the naked neck breed!

You'll love the Naked Neck's as much as we do after you get used to the look's of them! They handle the heat so much better. My rooster Charley was a year old this past February, and has never tried to attack anyone. He is a gentleman and moves out of the way. He call's the hen's for the food at feed time.

3 or 4 maybe. I'm keeping all the pullets for now but ordering some straight run chicks for fall and keeping a roo and pullets from them to breed with whatever I keep from these next year.

@JennyHeidewald Sorry that you lost your girl. What breed of chickens do you have?
Thank you, we have so many kinds, I like a bunch of different ones. :) Dominique/something mix (I think Hamburg), Gold Spangled Hamburg/EE mix, Black Australorp, Gold Sexlink, easter eggers, Golden Spangled Hamburg, Silver Spangled Hamburg, cochin bantams (black tailed red, gold laced, Silver laced, red), something I thought was a cochin bantam when a baby, but am not sure anymore (she is silver penciled looks rather dark brahma- ish, but has single comb), Sicilian Buttercup, Buff Orpington, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Black Copper Maran, Welsummer, Old English Game Bird (self blue, wheaten), Japanese bantam, Buff Brahma Bantam, Porcelain d'Uccles, Mille Fleur d'Uccles, Dutch Bantam ( blues, and a regular, forgot the color, and black), Cochin Bantam Frizzles (black, red, white), Buff Polish, Gold Laced Polish, White Crested Black Polish, Blue Polish (thought she as going to be black and white crest!), Silver seabright, Gold Seabright, Quail Belgian Bearded d'Anver Bantam, Sapphire Gems, Starlight Green Eggers, Crevecouer, Penedesenca, Olive eggers (one BCM/EE mix, Cuckoo Marans/Cream Legbar, Creamlegbar/?)...

I think that is it, I feel like I forgot one. We have mostly one of each. Really wanted a Cream Legbar, a Russian Orloff, and a blue australorp. Most of these were unplanned, I plotted, made lists and told my mom " Ok, we can get eight, so that means we can each get five....;) " Then we got a bit of chick fever this year, and this is what happened, we ended up with ten. ;) ;)
