I lost a chick to a rat snake that ate it this morning. I was able to get the snake out of there with a long board. I didn't have anything with me to kill the snake.

Thank's! I know a shovel work's, and I had one out there a couple of day's ago when I was doing the cleaning. Why couldn't it have picked that day to show up?

It's going to be cooler the next few day's, so I'm going to make make my chick grow-out pen more secure, so it won't be able to come back for a second helping!

Yes. There were 4, but now 3.

Edit: On another note, the black silkie Cockerel is wanting to breed now. He's a bit confused though, and trying to get the girl's at the wrong end.

Made me laugh - and I needed that!! I had a NN boy that did the same thing... we would just watch it be an idiot until one of the older hens took him aside and gave him the talk!
