I'm here - I always check in and see how everyone is doing. Flock is doing okay. I've lost a couple girls - one was cancer in her egg area - it was ugly - skin coming out her vent and everything. The other was an old girl. It was just her time. Otherwise all is well - not as clean as usual but all is well. My next project is changing out the lights. It is tedious but not a hard job. Just know I do check on ya'll to make sure all is well.

First time that I have heard of a hen getting cancer there. How old was she? Any idea on how that happened?

@BlueBaby - no idea. Hens are prone to getting cancer in their reproductive areas. Usually it is higher up but without vet input I really don't know.

Well, I'm still sorry to know that you lost her like that, no matter what causes it to happen. Is the rest of your flock done molting and back to laying egg's now?

Good Morning everyone, been forever since I've visited, how's everyone been doing ? busy life for me, some health issues, but otherwise alive and watching the flock grow.. had to rescue 6 eggs from a broody who was getting confused as to which nest was her's. She'd get into the wrong nest after she got down. tried putting her into her own little coop, but she broke, I took the eggs, put them in the incubator and now have 5 of 6 eggs that have hatched, 2-barnyard, 2-olive egger (last egg is a olive egger) and 1-NN. The first 2 are over 24 hours, these last three hatched somewhere between 9 and 2am, the most recent between 2 and 4am.

Well today the first hatchling came last night at 11:30pm. 19th day for this batch and from a green egg. So the hen is an EE. The chick has feathered feet so the Roo is my sisters cuckoo maran!

Getting the health issues addressed, hearts acting up. so have a stress test and a visit with the cardio for the week of the 21st. Right at the moment I am hatching for me, trying to sort things out. I've got the wingettes that I received from BlueBaby, they've now been added to Charlies coop/run, I've added I think two hatches now from him to the main flock, and just hatched 6 out of 6, one of which is his.. 2-barn yard mixes, 1 NN? (I think there was a recessed gene in there somewhere as it turned out silver and full feathered) and 3 olive eggers.

I have a silver boy I went and got from her, penciled is the current theory but he's gorgeous!

Glad you're taking care of yourself, heart stuff can be scary.
