Arizona Chickens

Hello all from Tonopah,

My 7 babies are growing fast, I have been having fun fixing up the run, I have added some limbs for them to roost on, they love it. The grass seed that I planted in a box in the pen has worked out well and the chicks love having fresh grass. I purchased a camo netting from an army surplus store and it makes great shade in the desert. I have a bench placed by the pen so that I can watch my chicks. What a way to spend time being retired, The day goes fast, as I am always looking for ways to spoil the flock. I can't wait until my girls are laying eggs.

I've enjoyed reading all the posts from the Arizona people. We spent the day checking out some of the local feed stores to find out prices and availability of supplies. It was fun!

I really enjoyed visiting with Vanessa and talking chickens without someone looking at me funny

She has a wonderful set up where she keeps all the chickies. They were very well taken care of. I got some great ideas that I want to try and impliment. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and hope to visit her again soon.

I was able to get 2 Ameracauna/EE's and 1 Standard Blue Cochin to replace all the roosters that seem to be popping up everywhere in my little flock. They are soooo adorable.

Hopefully I will be able to get pictures on Monday and let you all see them.

Thank you soooo much Vanessa

Aww your very welcome and thank you so much for all the wonderful comments. It was pretty cool to get to finally meet another BYC person and get to talk with someone that understands what true chicken addiction is

I have to find homes for one white crested black polish, one white leghorn roo, and possibly but not confirmed yet one light brahma roo.

My peeps are so cute and funny. They are about 5 maybe 6 weeks now and finally have started going to bed along.

Can you believe they needed me to put them to bed? It was so funny. I started keeping them in the laundry room when they were young because it was still too cold outside. Then when I put them out they clumped in the corner of that henhut about 7:30 each night and cheeped so loud I went out to check on them. They wanted me to stuff them in that big plant pot I had them in when they lived in the laundry room. So I gathered them up, stuffed the kleenex around them and tucked them in ...immediately they got quiet...so funny.

Well they roosted the other day, now it is not permanent because they called for me again last night, but it is coming...they are growing up....

I might need the white leghorn roo--how old is he.....I would have to come down from Chino Valley to the land of the hot to get it though....anyone coming up North anytime soon?

The white leghorn roo has a hatch date of 3/20/09 so that would make him 2 and a half months old. He is looking really nice though. If you are planning a trip to the valley anytime soon just PM me and you can have him. The only reason I don't keep them is because I like my neighbors. Lots of people in my neighborhood have roos but I try to find them homes before or when they start to crow.
