Arizona Chickens

That is not too much a problem with shipped hatchery chicks, they are hungry when you get them! That is why I was sad to see those chicks at the store. I just will not buy them from those places. They did have a bunch which seems to mean that the chicken rush from Covid might be over. I was there looking at the chick feed, and they only had one bag on the shelf!:(

Nice of them to have chick's there in stock, but nothing to feed them? That is bad management's hindsight.

Good morning everyone, yesterday we noticed on of our hens had a few drops of blood near her tail feathers (I’m assuming one of the others must’ve plucked off a feather or been pecking at her). We took her out and currently have her in a dog kennel to avoid more injuries, how long should we keep her away from the flock?
Sometimes that might be from laying a large egg -- a small capillary can break and bleed.

After my stop at Tractor Supply, I went to our local Olsen's Feed store. They did not have any chick feed on the shelf at all, but the stock boy said they did have some in the back. That is where my neighbor gets her feed, and they will deliver to our house. It is a buck or tow less, too. They never sell chicks. I am planning to get the cage that Tractor Supply sells for a run, it is 8x8 and easy to move.

At least there was a water fount. I could not believe my eyes, I told the guy there that they were hungry, and he just laughed. Not his department?

They are employee's that get moved around to wherever they are need at. They don't have to know what they are doing. It's all about what money can come into the cash drawer, so the speak.

Whenever I sell any of my newly hatched chick's, I make sure that they are eating and drinking properly before I even let them go.
When I hatch for others, I let them know that it's 21 days to hatch and another 3 as I want them eating and drinking on their own before they go home.. I'm afraid that the person might not know how to get them eating and drinking even if they already have chickens. At least this way if there is food and water in there, the chicks will know what it's for.. I figure they stand a fighting chance this way.

Is that a common problem? Not eating or drinking? I think among the 12 I have I showed maybe 3 of them where the food was and made them drink some water... everyone else just followed the leader I guess 🤷‍♂️...
