Arizona Chickens

so had a monsoon storm come through. dropped an inch and a half of rain in half an hour and 8 inches of piled up hail in the road. A sudden burst of ping ball size hail that took out 2 of my 9 week old Aloha females and injured 1 to the point I'm not sure she will make it. I'm beginning to think mother nature is trying to tell me something about my move to Bisbee.

Sorry that has happened to you. Didn't you have a place of shelter for them to go into to avoid that weather?

I did, they have a large coop at one end of the run, I tried to herd them into the coop, and after putting two in at a time as I grabbed another two, the first two would run out to go back to the rest. Starting today, all the runs get metal roofs. The Aloha's are the only ones who did not run for the coop when the storm started. As I was cussing them out, calling them sons of turkeys, for their behavior, the hail got to the size of ping pong balls. In the end I got them into the coop and secured, but the hail had claimed 2.

Awe. So very sad. I love my Alohas. I was thinking I should get a cockerel but have a Biefelder at the moment. Gonna try the no crow collar on him while he is still young. Although they have not ever really worked, thinking I could have put it on to late before. Hope your other girl makes it. Keep us posted.

Pretty sure leg is broken at the joint. Not sure how in the world to splint it so it will hold. So far nohting I've tried holds it in place so she can stand on it, let alone walk or hobble on it.
So sorry that she was injured. Sometimes they have amazing ability to recuperate, even with no care. All we can do is make food and water available, keep them in a dim and warm cage, and hope for the best :fl

I got my first pullet egg from my egg layers. It’s a pretty shade of blue so I’m thinking Bluebell my prairie bluebell egger laid it. Wasn’t in a nesting box but out in the run. I’m so excited!

Congrats on the first egg! I'm glad that you got some bigger breed's, because it take's too many silkie egg's to make a decent sized omelet. ;)
