Arizona Chickens

Hey all. Wondering if anyone has ever tried to organize a chicken coop tour in Phoenix. Sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to see how others have set up their coops in their backyards.

Anyone interested?

I gave my oldest son who had been away for two years a "tour" of my coop today... after it had been swept and mopped.... and DS #4 had swept and cleaned the juvie pen. He says it smells. I guess my smeller has quit working. I don't even notice it!

Just wanted everyone to know that when I originally signed up for BYC I did not think I would stay because I have never been a forum type person before. I am so totally addicted now and realized that I should have picked an easier name. I had it changed today from Azcknldy to ArizonaNessa. I know not really that creative but at least now you don't have to call me by something sounding like a license plate

I like it - I liked your other name too. I know what you mean about this forum - this is the first and only one I'm on and it is addicting - I check it everyday (well... if I'm home, maybe several times a day).

I bought my first chick today, however since we haven't gotten a coop made yet it is just a stuffed TY chick that I picked up at a garage sale.

Hopefully it may work like "seeding" a wooden egg in a nest and be the start of a flock.

We are working on a coop design. My husband says he is "engineering it" so I'm afraid it may take awhile.

ArizonaNessa: Good name change it is easier to read than the old one. It took me a little bit to figure out the other one.

WELL let me be the first to say

also im going to have to add this .. if you cant find another chick to keep this one company (best to have more than 1) atleast put a stuffed animal in the brooder to keep it company otherwise it will cry all the time .. good luck with your chick

HI stuebelchicks,

I bought 3 chicks maybe 6 weeks ago or so. I have them in a henhut from McMurry. It is portable and sits on the ground. Dont have room for a nice coop like the ones I have seen on the forum. Mine are truly back yard chickens. Waiting to see if i get away with it with the neighbors. Hope since I do not have a roo they will not notice

My three started in chirping loud when even one is separated from the flock. this am I put them in a fence pen so I could move that henhut and everybody was upset till they were all together again.. Did not know they were so social. Even though I was raised on a farm(50 yrs ago) I seem to be a little green with this chicken fun. The forum helps a lot.

Looking forward to your chick stories.

Hey zonies,

I have a juvie pullet that has a swollen crop. It is soft, and feels pretty empty, but it is huge! I tried to empty it of all the air, but not much came out. Just grain in there, I think. I cleaned the waterer and added ACV and a little molasses. Also added to other puddles around the yard. I put a few drops down her throat.

What else can I do. I am not going to do surgery, or tube her crop. I did pay a bunch for this pullet and I am going to be really mad if I loose her, but, honestly, I am just not up to heroic measures.

I looked around the BYC, but not much there. I don't think it is impacted. I think it is sour crop, but maybe some of you have had some experience with such a thing??

Should I give her sulmet?

BTW, sorry I don't know any duck breeders.
And to Struebelchick,
