Arizona Chickens

Evening y'all, everyone surviving this heat ? I'm out twice a day, once in the morning, feed, water and treats given. Depending on how bad the winds are, misters turned on. Then again in the evenings about 5 or 6, collect the eggs, double check all the chick sized waterer's, I've got 5 of them.. 6 chicks, 1 tall enough now to reach one on the big chickens waterers. have a large chick height waterer for the 2 in the NN's coop.. the one for the big guys is to high to reach for the little ones. Been scattering chick feed for the babies, but have seen them walking up the board I have to hold a feeder open..then jumping down in the feed..lol. I've hatched several for friends, just got a roo back today, his buddy got nabbed by a coyote and his Mom didn't want him to be lonely, so here he came. He's currently in isolation with introduction. Time for me to play musical Roo's again. Their starting to catch up with the number of hens I have..lol, going to move the biggest boy's on to a new home. keep little guy and the newest guy as he looks like he'll be small enough he won't tear the girls up. With a barnyard mix that I have unless it's a NN, I have no clue really who momma's who and the same for "Who's your daddy" lol.. now if they are hatched from white eggs, I know it's one of the two leghorns I have, if it's blue or green it's either EE,OE or Americuna.., but that still leaves who's your daddy.. Everyone is pretty much a Heinz 57. I'd have to buy pure breeds and then keep them out of the mix to tell for sure who's who. This is the newest addition @BlueBaby and I were talking, She thinks that it has some Cream Legbar in it. I've got two other chicks that look to have the same coloring.

Now that you have shown more pictures of that one in question, I'm still seeing the Crested Cream Legbar crest on the head. I am also now seeing cheek feather's and a bit of a beard.

All signs of the legbar? the feathering is going to be interesting on the next round of chicks, especially when it's just him and little guy.

No, the Crested Cream Legbars do not have those feather's that stick out on the cheeks like that, nor do they have a beard. The Easter Eggers and Olive Eggers normally do though.

My chicks were useless with their dust bath that i worked so hard on. I took the lid off, I tried putting them in it.. i put a bunch of mealworms in a trail to it, and inside of it.. they ate the worms, but not even a single kick to ther dirt.

It does smell amazingly nice though. I have a mortar that i used to grind ther fresh rosemary from my garden, and did manage to find a few dried roses with petals, along with lots of basil snd dried oregano. Just smells very calming and fresh.

I was hoping they'd test it out today since tomorrow is cleaning day, i could have seen what potential dirt disasters im in store for! Oh and puppies were chasing, so they went to jail.

I see that you put the dog's in jail.

I found this the other day, might give you a hint of what possible predators could be responsible:

Is there a way to set up a camera to catch whatever come's back for more?
I've been out during the day and evening, I have yet to see a hawk. I used to see them often but I'm guessing it is too hot. My only hope is that they went to a neighbor that I hear their rooster(s) every morning. Not sure who it is but I know the direction. It's pretty far though so I'm not optimistic. I actually have cameras to install but it is low on the priority list. Time to move on I guess...:(

I see it is going to get blazing hot over the weekend. My birds have full shade, bricks in a pool that work well, delicious 25 cent watermelon from safeway and I even put out blocks of ice. I still feel bad watching them pant most the day. :idunno
