Arizona Chickens

It was a year ago today that I came to BYC after a man gave me some eggs at a swap meet, and I candled them and found developing chicks in some of them. Sometimes small things can start big changes. I've gone from thinking about getting chickens someday to chicken obsessed. All that in only one year's time. 🤔

And don't forget being converted to becoming a hatch-a-holic with that addiction! :lau

BTW, happy 1 year anniversary at BYC!

I've been chicken obsessed for almost 8 years and still don't have any. And, with the new neighbors (who will be building right behind us) it's looking like I won't get to have roosters. What started as a 360 degree panorama of pine trees and private forest, has become installed septics, earthworks, and staked plans for future houses on three sides. :(

I knew it was going to happen once those other three lots sold, but knowing a thing and seeing the reality is altogether different.

Oh well. Someday I'll have chickens, even if only girl ones.

This morning I heard a weird noise coming from outside. It sounded like a chicken was strangling. Then Big Ben answered, and I realized that it was Gabriel trying to crow. The chicken music around here is on the increase! :D
Is Gabriel a dorking or leghorn? Sorry I haven't been keeping up.

He's a cuckoo colored Leghorn who hatched on July 8th. He was going to be Gabby because he would peep at me a lot, but Gabby turned out to be a boy.

I don't know if your goal would be just for the egg's, or egg's and meat, but a larger dual-purpose hen would be ok for both. The older hen's are the stewing hen's for when they stop laying.
