I always thought they were tempting fate to keep all those animals in that enclosure - they have goats in there with all the poultry and also a raised rabbitry just outside that enclosure. I'm surprised they didn't have significant losses sooner. They have been there probably 20 years so they know better than me the risks.Sorry for your neighbor's losses, but glad that your are ok and were protected.
I'm grateful my DH is a super chicken fortress builder. He overbuilds and always takes my suggestions seriously like the bottom part of the wall on enclosed runs being made of expanded metal panels (used in stucco systems) that are sharp on predators paws if they test it. I'm thinking the predator could've been spying our system and found an easier mark at the neighbors.
