Arizona Chickens

Well, I ended up with only having 11 egg's that were from the batch of shipped egg's from Chicago so I marked them with a C" and then added one of mine marked with a "B" so that it would be an even dozen that went into my incubator at 9 am this morning. The batch of egg's from the other state will most likely be delivered tomorrow and any of those that are good enough to go into my incubator will be marked with a "M". All of them will be Bielefelder's , but I wanted to mark them anyway's so I can keep track of what hatches from where.

My 2nd batch of Bielefelder hatching egg's arrived this morning. There were 14 egg's in this one, and they were packed differently. None of these egg's were broken even though they had traveled father then the other batch. There's even a few of the speckled egg's in there. I have them resting in an egg carton now.

Sounds like you need an extra incubator!:)

Oh good point. I'll keep an eye on it and see what it ends up doing. I spent most of the day just getting it to work at all! For now, it's just runoff from the evap cooler which is off at night. We shall see... But I did not expect so much interest from the girls in what is basically just a muddy spot so far. 😂
The mud attracts life and activity - they can scratch and find little worms or sprouts of seeds waking up just because there's a little water - then they scratch and mud becomes more fertilized and more life happens. Especially if you put some rocks or logs and overturn them to expose bugs for the hens.

I've even had little toads start to hang out around the puddles or emerge from underground (too bad for the toad- they don't last long with the chickens). But I also have the Lazy River overflow into the Lazy Garden - toads can take cover if they make it there and be very happy.

I already still have my older styrofoam one, plus I'm planning on buying another NR 360 too.
It's always good to have an extra. And the NR 360 makes hatching an easier process, I'm always thinking of ways to make things better - I actually have a running "Farm Better" list.
Every time I check off something on that list everything is better the next day - little things like hanging up a feeder or asking my DH install pulleys on the pop doors that I can operate from outside.

Yes, and with another NR 360 I can put eggs in the both of them on separate week's if I want to. I can still use the styrofoam one for lockdown's, and that way give me a change to clean out one NR 360 to get it ready for another hatch if needed. It might not work out that way, but at least I would be prepared for it. Other wise, by spring I will also be able to sell hatching egg's for if people would prefer to hatch their own either by incubator or a broody hen.

You could take pre-orders for hatches too.
