Yes I am! I have about 2 dozen eggs to choose from that I've collected to hatch soon also, I want to have some chicks to sell when I have a plant sale around Mother's Day, so haven't started any hatching yet.

My incubator can only hold 22 egg's at a time. Maybe I should try one of these?

I have an aquarium and probably all the parts to make that right now - it's amazing what some people can use as an incubator!!! I started making one from a cheap styrofoam cooler before I bought 1 and then another commercially made incubators.

No lack of instruction to build DIY incubator out there... and i think here on BYC also.

Mothers Day is still a way's off. The fresher the fertile egg is, the better chance for the hatching.

I wonder if they put the air vent holes in it like in the regular incubators?

I used a homemade styrofoam one for years and years. My then middle schooler made it for me out of a fish shipping box from a pet store, water heater thermostat and lightbulbs. It worked amazing. She picked up a broken wine cooler she's planning on turning into a cabinet incubator for me that I'm excited about. If she ever gets it done . She's 28 now so times precious for her and her dreams of what she wants to build are much bigger. Now she wants automatic turners, heating coils and an accurate thermostat...bless my baby girl

Yes you are right @BlueBaby definitely hatch fresh eggs - I've been collecting eggs just in case I want to hatch but we feed the oldest eggs to the animals as I get new ones. It gives me a chance to think thru what I really want to hatch for myself and potential customers. And gives me practice writing the date and breeds on the eggs as I figure it out.

I went to a "Llama v. Alpaca - what's the difference" program on Friday at the Chino Valley library and someone mentioned riding an Emu or Ostrich and so the pre-program conversation took off in new directions. Thier eggs are hard to hatch, impossible to candle AND most importantly -- where am I gonna put 'em if they do hatch? haha

I also got to see dog agility competion in the city park before that program. This was all a spur of the moment stop after a feed store run and a quick stop at grocery store for supersale on pork roasts. I'm still cooking pork roasts now.

Never knew Llamas and Alpacas laid eggs.
