greenclogs... I'm very sorry for your lost chickie. Your son sounds like mine. Lots of love to give! How old is he? Mine is almost 6.

Well, so far we have not had any more run-ins with what ever got the bunnies. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will stay away.

I've been taking the dogs every morning and evening around the yard to scent mark in the hopes that a fresh dog scent will deter what ever it was. Maybe it was just hungry for rabbit and not chicken? LOL...

I did have a hawk come and try to get my quail! I was furious! That stupid thing just wouldn't leave. Even after my DH hit it square in the back with a rock it still hung around. I have the cage wrapped in 1/2" mesh, but it looks like it was still able to get it's little talons through and hook one of the females. She was dead in the cage the next day. Sigh...

Other than that, all is well. My new chickies are supposed to be arriving this week and I'm soooooo excited!!!!!! Finally I will have my Wellies!!!!!!

He's 11. I don't think he'll lose his compassion at this point, which makes me happy. Both kids seem okay today. I'm sad because we lost a Barnevelder. But, the Welsummers all look good, as do the rest of the Barnevelders.

BTW- The cute little 4H-er (soon to be driving, watch out!) down the street came trick-or-treating with her little sister on Saturday. She got 3(?) blue silkies for showing and was ToTing with her new champion alpine goat. Scared the bajeezus out of the DH...she had been chatting for 10 minutes before DH relized it was a GOAT not a DOG on the end of that leash. Suddenly, her pigtails, jeans, and hay stuck in her hair made sense.

Thats funny Laree I just got home from the feed store got some 4way wet for my calves a little more chick starter and what do You know they had some Light Brahma's in well my wife never looks in my brooder so I went ahead and got 3. and I have 2 dozen eggs coming from Maria Halls line of BBS Jersey Giants and I am starting to save my Blue and Black Cochin eggs,Because I have to test run my Dickey when it comes in on Thursday!! Right?

Ill be ordering from a legit breeder not some hatchery

Ill probably hatchout 12 if i can get enough people to take the extras .. i only want 1 pullet HAHA

Brent... There would be plenty of us willing to take some of those babies off your hands! I am one of them! LOL...
edited to add: OOOooo! I just saw that A&Ms are on your wish list. Maybe we can do a little trading of chicks/quail. I have 30 of them right now!!!

Larissa... You are chicken crazy! LOL... Is that like the pot calling the kettle black? HeHe....

I have to keep my head down and go straight to the counter when I'm in the feed store. I have 26 babies on the way and I could probably sneak some babies in without my husband knowing, but I would feel guilty! LOL....

But we need to keep in on down low with my hubby. Shhhh...

I've been thinking about setting some silkie eggs. Anyone want some babies? Lol....

Sorry Trent! LOL.... Sometimes it is heard to sort out screen names! Well, when you are ready for the A&Ms just let me know. It is always easier to get them locally than ship! I also have Jumbo Browns if you want any of those. I like them because they are soooo much easier to sex! Vent sexing = yuck!!!!

Well some things just are not meant to be. My 93 year old Aunt fell and broke her hip this evening. I am her only family left and when she gets out of the hospital after her surgery I will ned to be her care giver until I can sell her home and find her assisted living. There fore, I will be unable to raise and car for my chicks. I have one RIR, one Barred Rock an one Ameracana, they are around 12 days old. I have one Spotted Sussex and one Golden Wyandot that are a week old. I need to find them new homes asap. I do not want to sell them I would just like to find them a loving home. Any takers please? I live in Gilbert.

If no one takes them is there a chicken rescue?

I am very sad to have to do this but with a 11 year old child and my Aunt who will need lots of attention, I can not handle the chickens too.

Brenda if You dont find a home soon just let me know I can take them in I will have a new flock called the land of misfit chicks!! I have my JG's my Cochins! Then my misfits!(no worries) I am very sorry about Your Aunt very nice of You to take care of Her thats what families are for!!
