Hmmm. I really like those kitchen cabinet nest box/little boy containment systems. Really gets me thinking. My little boys are 15, 18, 19 and 21. I'm thinking pantry-sized cabinets. I will be searching CL!
DH has really discovered the joys of chicken farming! I wanted a simple, three-sided coop like AZDesertChicks'. Not wanting to upset anyone, since I'm the one wanting chickens, not DH, I'm trying to design it to be as close to free as possible. My little 8x8 open coop design with a 6x12 old dog run as a run area has now turned into quite the plan! DH has decided the coop will be 12x8 and the run will be no less than 12x12. 1/2 of the run will have a corrugated metal roof, original to the dog run, and the other half will have a wire cover. He wants to trim the coop and paint it red and white to look like a little barn. He's told me to keep my eye out for used shutters and he can mount them to look like windows as decoration. Maybe even add one of those old rooster weather vanes!
I've shown him some of the feeders and waterers other BYCers have made out of 5-gallon buckets and he loves the simplicity of them.
Now, I think I need to get this coop to move from plan to action. The little buggers are already 3 weeks old!
