Hope everyone is doing well. Today I heard some "familiar" squeeks and chirps from the back yard and when I went to investigate......Peachies! Two beautiful little peachface Lovebirds were flying back and forth from the palms to the neighbors orange trees. I hope they stick around, I kinda like all their chirping and chattering..

I need to move some babies outside too...a rabbit hutch would sure do the trick but havent found one yet.

Vanessa- So some mysterious benefactor gifted several of you GFMs? Very cool! I was wondering how that could have happened accidently.


Regarding the chicks staying outside at 6 weeks - I can't wait till mine are old enough. They're all about 1 month and I'm getting tired of bringing them inside the shed at night and then back out again in the morning (they're still under the heat lamp, but at least not indoors anymore) . About 1/3 of the chicks very are easy to pick up - another 1/3 play hard to get, and that last bunch (alwasy the same chicks) seem to think I'm going to eat them. You'd think they'd be used to the routine by now. They aren't afraid of me when I'm inside their outdoor pen with them, but when it comes to reaching way back into their brooder --- argh!

Edited to add: We're on day 15 and I have 3 definite living embryos and 1 probable embryo from my carton of 12 Trader Joe's eggs. They're in my homemade incubator and after they hatch (if they hatch

), I'll give them to broody #2.

3 eggs were broken (2 by broody - 1 ?? - Shells are pretty thin
1 bloodring
1 rotten egg - it had been covered by all the egg goo from one of the broken eggs while under the broody
3 clears (never started developing)

4 good eggs? They were 11 days old when taken out of the carton, so we'll see......

Mahonri - I think I just got an accurate answer as to the sex and colors of those chicks, but.... you can still verify if you like - a 2nd opinion never hurts. Wish I could keep the pretty roos.

I have bee's that started inhabiting my pecan tree this weekend and they are still here. They dont seem to be leaving. They are about 5' up the trunk in the crook of the tree. Hustle over to Crocketts in Tempe and buy a hive and frames. Get a smoker and bee suit too. Shake them down into the box and let them settle down. I would keep bees if I could. It sounds expensive, but it is probably cheaper than hiring an exterminator, plus you get a hive of bees.

The State Dept of Agriculture used to keep a list of beekeepers that would take care of swarms. I am not sure if they do that any more. I don't think we have an Apiary program any more.

If you do collect the swarm, plan on re queening it as soon as possible. You really don't want an aggressive hive. Anyway, good luck with the bees, whether you collect them or exterminate them.

I refuse to lose a pet due to my lack of knowledge. Been there done that got the tshirt and gave that one to goodwill!

Chickens will always be my first passion because after all they saved my life. You just don't walk away from that.

Oh Nessa <3. You just made my day, maybe even my week. :'C I'm flat out serious, I am so glad to read you say that. I do rescues, fosters and find small animals homes often and I NEVER get to hear something like that. It's always, "His cage is kind of small but we let him out a lot" or "I had no idea they ate hay, our past five rabbits just ate seeds". Your going to be a great Rabbit Mum when you feel the time is right. Since you are going to the whole nine yards and it sounds like they will have plenty of room you might be able to get away with two boys. They might still bicker so maybe two females?

Chickens saved your life...I want that in a bumper sticker! I'd like to hear about it if it doesn't bother you sharing?
