Yea so... Tofu I sent you an email about that but my wife had a moment of reality setting in and decided that we should not get chickens without the coop and chicken yard being built first SOoooo... long story short no chicks for me right now. Sorry Tofu, I would have loved to come see your place but it wont happen this weekend which is a bummer.

SO anyway it sounds like I need to get working on a coop. I learned long ago before all else i must keep my wife happy so... No chickens right now.

But I will keep learning and get my coop all ready and then (hopefully) she wont be able to say no.

I know what I am doing tomorrow

Well, the first drama of the hatch unfolded this evening

I have a sensitive temperature probe that I put into the IncuCubebator (the one with only 12 eggs) since yesterday afternoon it noticed that the temperature would have wide swings from 98.2 up to 101.4 and the humidity had plummeted to 20%.

It was driving me nuts as to why.

I finally figured it out. The thin plastic window on the back side had come loose, cold air had been rushing in for who knows how long.
I may not have noticed it but for the drop in humidity and the need to add more water to the little reservoirs at the bottom.

I really wanted those polish crosses to hatch as well as the GCMaran. And I had my bluest of eggs from my own girls in there as well.

Oh well, you win some, you loose some. I'm leaving them in there until candle. So much for that $90.00

I got some duct tape and taped it down along the bottom margin as well as up along the sides.
Now the temp only fluctuates from 99.4 to 100.8 a much better swing in temp. My humidity is a tad on the high side... guess I didn't need to add so much... but it's slowly going down.

We'll see what they all look like at first candle on the 10th.

Got a pic?... was that one of the EEs that you got with the wheaten roo????????

Yep. That's the one. It must be a slow-to-mature kind of roo. I will get a pic out on Monday. Too much going on today and tomorrow.

I bet those eggs are okay. They are pretty resiliant. I gave a bunch to my broody, so I have a little over half of them left in the bator. Now we have to build something for the broody so she can stay where she is and raise the little ones.

Shaun - I will also try to get pic of our set up. Someone else asked for set up pics, too. We finally have ours all cleaned up and tweety bird free, so I will get pics. Make sure your set up is tweety bird proofed. They will eat you out of coop and yard and poop on everything!!

Laree - hope your hens are okay. What a rough day they had!

Our family gathering is today. About 50 folks for food and fellowship. Little ones hunting eggs and my grand niece will be here from PA. Very excited! Have worked my tushy off getting the house ready. Lots to do this morning, as soon as I finish my coffee...

Happy Easter!

Anyone into bird watching? You can hop over to my house. We have some tweeters that keep to themselves and lay nests in the palm trees. Past few weeks the pidgins have been coming in, all they do is sit on walls and roof. For about three days now, ducks. A male and three female (green head and the rest brown?) have made themselves at home in the pool. Not only that but yesterday they took a sunbath while sitting on my pool float. My goal is to get all three of my visiting species in a photo.

Goof morning everyone! Today the family has a few egg hunts to attend, and then I am going to try and "dumb chicken" proof the brooder. NO MORE INJURIES!

Random happenstance: when I went to check on the injured chicks, there were 9 in the brooder instead of 8. Hmmm. Turns out one of Sommer's culls was done sleeping with the big kids. She has been in the main coop for a month, but I guess would rather hang out with the chicks It really confused me for a minute: from the top she looks just like a SS chick: that wild-type brown--all her mottling & mille fleur is on her chest & head.

Western Ranchman has turkey poults! I want a couple of white midgets, but the DH said, "Nooooo!"

He played with them for 20 minutes, and asked if I was going to get any chicks. When I pointed out the chicks weren't chickens, he backtracked soooooo fast. I shouldn't have said anything, and then played dumb when they started to gobblegobble instead of cluckcluck.
