It is amazing to me how terrifying returning to school is. I went back after being out for many years. School had always been pretty easy for me, but I was still TERRIFIED! I bought myself a little "class of 2005" key ring and held on to it very tightly when I I got nervous as I got ready to get started. It wasn't until I was sitting in orientation that I knew for sure I was in the right place at the right time. It was one of the best things I have ever done. I had a blast and actually went into a kind of mourning for a bit when I finished. Going back was a great experience. I am soooo glad I did.

Before starting the program that I finally did, I talked about going back for 5 years or so and went back and forth and back and forth in indecision in choosing a direction. That can be a tough space.

It takes a lot of courage to go back to school, but it can be a great experience. I admire you and know that good things can come your way!

Baker's Nursery will get Lady Bugs in tomorrow afternoon. Don't go run out and buy all of them until I have a chance!

I have Friday off.

Just waiting for Carl (Sam the Yam) to call hope he's on his way to pick up his eggs.

I've got 18 for him. He can choose the ones he wants for his broody!

Last hatch, I candled the last two that I saw hadn't pipped and I PIPPED FOR them. One wasn't quite ready,(it took it about 3 hours to hatch after that) the other one practically just popped out!!! It was walking around within 20 minutes of my pipping through the air cell.

So I have 18 eggs ready for Carl... I don't even know if he is going to come pick them up. I was admiring the color of the Buff Orpington egg and I dropped it!

I substituted a Leghorn egg... but it's not going to be the same Oh well, If he comes to get them great, if not, I'll have some french toast.

I had to laugh, looking at that magazine article about keeping chickens. Those people had such a nice yard and garden. My hooligan hens would have destroyed that in about a hour.

They are on lock down in their chicken yard now. They ate every blade of grass and weed in the backyard. It is finally coming back. In the mean time, I have been feeding them weeds from the alley, but now those are drying up.

I have grass envy. Whenever people from other places post pictures of their yards they are all so green. I have a pathetic Bermuda grass lawn that cost me a small fortune to keep green. Oh well, at least I don't have to deal with snow.

That picture of the ground squirrel brought back memories. Years ago, my father was building a restaurant in Rock Springs and he had a squirrel get into his lunch. He caught the thing and brought it home. Us kids loved it; my mother hated it. It lived for two or three years and then it died. We fed it peeled pecans and anything else it would eat.

My uncle used to have a butane tank on a truck. He would stick the hose down the squirrel or prairie dogs' holes and fill the burrows with butane gas. I guess butane is heavier than air, and it would displace the air. The poor rodents would breath their last breaths.

He would sit there smoking while he did it. We always watched this operation from a good distance. He never did blow up.

For what it is worth, there is an article in today's "Arizona Republic" about the Vietnamese Martyr's Catholic church I mentioned previously. It is being dedicated this weekend.

Honestly, when they started building it until they put up the cross, I thought it was going to be a Bao Dai Temple.

I dunno? All I got was a text. She is our baby-sitter and so honest and sweet it makes my teeth hurt. She's cute too. We should hook her up with one of Mahonri's boys.

(she would die if she knew I was pimpin' her out online

So I went to the feed store today to buy more chick starter and the lady there said that since my chicks were about 5-6weeks old that I should move them to crumble. She said that they were out of chick grow crumble but that I could give them turkey crumble and that would be fine and that actually it was better in protein. Is this correct? Also for 3 chicks how many gallon waterer and feeder should I have for them?

Lots of people use the higher protien food. They do fine on it...but I think it is more expensive.

3 chicks will need at least 2 gallons of water a day by the time they grow up. Not that they will drink it all, they will just get it dirtier faster.

Speckledhen says, "if you won't drink from it, clean it".
