Arizona Chickens

Shaun - I think you have at least 2 pullets, maybe 3 - they look very happy in their new home.

#1 - It's hard to tell from the pics, but I'm leaning towards girl - the comb looks kind of dark, but also looks small and thin (since you can see her in person, try comparing her combs to my pics below)
#2 - looks like a pullet
#3 - definitely a pullet

Here's the combs from my roos:

Here's an EE pullet - you can see that her comb is a light pink, not as bright a pink or as large as the roos (pictured above)

After comparing yours to my pics, what do you think of your chicks?

Bees are fairly annoying. I have a nest outside my window, i can't get any air until it's removed. Arg.

Ty for the get well wishes. I didn't have ice cream so I used light cream, whipped it, added sugar and vanilla then froze it. It's the laziest ice cream I have seen but heck if is doesn't taste like vanilla. It's pretty good actually.

Do you know whats sad? I'm starting to get ill when I eat something very eggy. Like egg(duh), egg custard, omelets, custard icecream and bla bla bla. It strange, even the eggs are cooked thoroughly I feel sick.

You can have him if you want him - If my roos don't find a home this weekend, I'll have to take them to the stock ship (they're eating too much food and I can't keep roosters in my neighborhood).

DONE! Will you be around tomorrow?

crud. Just saw Mahonri's post....well if he needs hims more than I do...

Maybe you can have joint custody

He'd be good for the Alohas, yes? And you need a new roo, yes?

My third layer is still a mystery. Whoever she is didn't lay today. I was SO hoping she would since I was home all day and I could catch her in the nest, but that would just be too easy!

Argh! I think that Jean Grey (one of my Buckeyes) has decided to go broody. She was on the nest earlier today, and this evening was still on the nest, with no egg laid, looking all puffed out and annoyed. I wish that if she was going to go broody she could have waited awhile, Jayne (the Ameraucana cockrel I got from Mahonri) still hasn't gone through puberty, so I won't have fertile eggs of my own until at least June.
So, if she stays broody, I might be looking for a few fertile eggs. Does anyone have a few to spare?

AZKat: I have a couple of roos that age that are already chasing the pullets... and it looks like they are successful?

Laree... you need that roo more than I do.

I figure with 37 chicks, 1 of them has to be a splash roo.

I'm pretty sure this red/white roo came from one of the eggs marked EE. His comb is not a perfect looking pea comb - it's a bit larger/lumpier and not as neat and tidy as the pea comb of the other chickens. He also had a stripe down his back when he was tiny - EE trait?

Here's his baby pics (he's in front):

He's the red/blond one on the left - he's been bigger than the other chicks from the beginning. The pic is kind of blurry, but you can still see the faint mark on his head - the EE stripe.

I'll try to get a pic of his comb tomorrow. I don't think he's a pure splash wheaten, but he is definitely a looker. Laree, do you care what his comb looks like? If you still want him, I'll be home part of the day tomorrow or I can meet you. I'm at 67th Ave & Union Hills, but will be visiting my mom at 4th St. and Union Hills, if that's closer to you. I'll be at my mom's from about 6-8 - very casual and it's fine if you want to pick him up there.

Picture time is fun. Much enjoyed GCK & Shaun.

GCK - so sorry about the kidney stone and ER trauma.

RRR - glad you are doing better. Weird about egg aversion.

Mohonri - 105 is 10 degrees away...

Laree - how funny about the turkeys. Here's hoping the hatch.

AZKat - nice to hear from. Broodies are fun...and I worry a lot.

Sock - glad you made it back in the house safe.

ALL - It may be a few days before I can post a picture, but Mud (BA Hen) has some black round things appearing on her comb. I did some searching and came up with ... wounds from other hens or avian flu....could it be mites too? How do I check for mites?

Azkat- my eggs wont be hatchable for another few weeks, but you could ask Sommer--i know she has a glut of eggs right now.

Or *snicker, snicker* you could try one of these turkey eggs under your broody.

ANNND--here is my M-day present. the boys found it at a garage sale for $3 when I was in Chicago. It is brand-new, still in the original styrofoam. My DH is a man after my own heart. Cheap with an eye for the bizzare.
