If she continues to be really loud i may have to get rid of her... If i were to do that, would someone else just take that position of the wird alpha hen that tries to crow?

There is not a lot of romance in chicken love. In fact it is rather brutal. Sometimes if you add hens to the flock it helps to stop over breeding, but sometimes it doesn't. They seem to have their favorites. My wife thinks it is all so disgusting.

Yes, that is the way of chickens.

I have a rooster because, I guess I am just a criminal at heart. Actually, I live along the freeway, and if anyone can hear my chickens over the roar of the traffic, it would be a miracle. So far, no one has complained. I have co opted most of my neighbors by giving them chicks and eggs.

Most of my neighbors are not the type to call the cops over a chicken. They either have chickens or goats or some illicit gardening going on.

This evening, Jean Grey was up on the perch with the others, so I guess she decided not to be broody after all. I checked all of the eggs I got today, and none of them were fertile, so it looks like either he isn't really trying yet, or else he isn't having a lot of luck with the ladies. I don't think it helps that although the two flocks are starting to get along better, they are still two flocks that are sharing the same living space, and none of the younger birds have been fully accepted by the older birds.

Good morning all! I picked up that splash wheaton from AZDC. Uh oh, another lap rooster. Oh well, this one is not destined for freezer camp, so I suppose it is ok. We picked him up & went to my dad's for a while. The DH ALWAYS falls asleep at my dad's....

Need name vote: Avalon or Cinnabun?

i vote cinnabon!

also, i have a little issue that i need some help with. . . . i have too many chickens for my space. i went with rule of thumb and purchased more than i actually wanted counting on the survival rate not being 100%. Well . . . . i have had 100% survival rate, now i have three too many. i have two Brahma Buff pullets and one barred rock that are about six weeks old. they are very friendly and social. if anyone is interested they are free to a good home.

And what a pretty rooster.

Hey Laree... The roosters I have from the Aloha project will need to be finding homes soon. I have 3 and they are all very colorful. Will get pictures soon. That way you and Summer can decide which to use and which ones I should get rid of.

OK--We'll be processing my "no-go" guys pretty soon, now that

the illness has moved on. We should talk to Chrystal too---it is about time we get her some Alohas with all that space she has....

OK so I may have to get rid of this one girl. Does anyone want a black silkie hen about 8 months old.

She seems to be laying for me (cant tell if its her for sure) and she is a little shy and not into being held like some of my other silkies.

I was told she was broody and laying before i got her. Tried sitting in the nest one day but the other older hens kicked her out of the nest.

She is a loud one right now and I am getting more and more concerned my neighbors could get annoyed and call the chicken police on me.

Anyone interested??

I could scrounge up at least one more bird to go with her so she is not solo. Let me know...

Shaun

I will try and get some pictures by Wednesday (busy as hell today and tuesday.) You can kind of see her in some of my pictures above or on my flickr : http://www.flickr.com/smjacob

Shaun - You could try quarantining her for awhile to get the pecking order mixed up? None of my BA's try to crow. I only have hens. They pick on each other a little bit, but not much. No bare spots or anything.

Laree - Cinnabon is a great name. Nice picture.

AZKAT - I will be curious to hear how the integration goes.

Rufus - glad your neighbors are on board.
