Arizona Chickens

Shaun,

I have both.

Brinsea: Advantage... you don't have to regulate humidity... it's set and forget.
Disadvantage... the most eggs you can set is 20-24
.... also it gets VERY cramped when hatching begins
.... $$$$ unless you get it on sale mid-January.

1588: Advantage... up to 42 eggs in a turner.. (and I usually stack so you can put more)
... lots of room when hatch begins.
.... Great price w/ turner
Dis-advantage... you have to watch it more than a mother hen would... I have constant problems with the humidity
... some tout it as "plug and play"... not really.''

either way... I'll soon have FBCM eggs as well as W/BW Ameraucana eggs to sell you! :0)

I have a 1583 with the all clear window on the top...for a smaller incubator I really love it, I think that it does a better job than the 1588 (I have both) you don't have to "watch it as much"

Some of the watching that you have to do with incubating in AZ it that it is so dry here all the time. I even have trouble sometimes with my cabinet incubators with humidity

Just so you get started correctly, they are Marans. One Marans or two Marans. I know, it is weird to say and most don't say it correctly, but you will now!

I LOVE my CM's eggs! They're not always that spotted, but so far she hasn't laid one yet that didn't have at least some tiny freckles. They're small eggs though... I don't even think they're technically mediums. Pretty sure Laree's bantams lay bigger.

I do love those speckles, though!!

I don't think you are the only one having this problem. It has happened to me recently, Mahonri, and one other person I can recall that has mentioned this in the past couple of weeks. I don't have an answer, but maybe BYC has had a recent glitch.

I do try to remember to click the link in my most recent email notification as it says, "There may be more new replies, but this is the only notification you will receive until you visit the board again."

I haven't had this problem with other threads, though, even if I don't click the link from my email.

Since I use the "Recent posts" links, I tend to subscribe and unsubscribe to threads on accident all the time.

HOWEVER--it is more likely your email filter is blocking the thread updates. You may need to ad the notificiation email address to your address book, or check you junk mail filters.

ETA: this come up evertime Microsoft does an update.
