I checked for fertility today, last week none of the eggs were fertile, and this week about half of them were, so it looks like Jayne is starting to get the job done. Of course, this happens pretty soon after Jean Grey decided not to be broody after all.

Oh, well, there is always next time.

However, the Sevin dust did not work, for me, in the pens and bedding. I ended up using Permethrin dust which killed them.

Be sure you give her some vitamin/electrolyte water. She will be fine.

For 10 years I've been bone on bone between L3-L4 & L4-L5. If I move just the wrong way, I'm in pain.

I have the "Accountant's Shoulder" and "Computer Slouch"....all those years of orchestra & band posture, down the tubes.

The cut is healing very quickly. Cluckin told me to stop whining, since hands heal super-fast. She's right, of course. She & her little cubicle minions even laughed at me on Friday: she spends her work days entertaining her coworkers with my comical expliots. Then on Fridays, they all pack into her car, clown-like, to see the freak in person... They SAY they are going to Baker's, but I know the truth.

The cut LOOKS all healed up, but is still pretty tender when it gets bonked. I have a really high tolerance for pain, so sometimes I have a hard time telling how bad an injury is until it is too late. So when something acturally hurts, I take it seriously & let myself complain a bit. But the cut & foot are healing nicely, I am pretty much at my normal level of gimpiness. I am getting the other eyeball fixed on Friday, so more fun for me.

Back to chickens: We processed yesterday. Grandma was being overwhelmed with the kids, so I took the kids shopping while DH & Neighbor did the deed. The chickens were a little subdued last night. They seemed a little more relaxed, and had some extra space on the roost. I ended up keeping 1 Patchling, who is just starting to crow. His name is Tofu, and I am waiting to see how he grows out.

The DH says he doesn't want to become the neighborhood butcher, but he is pretty efficient. Maybe I'll start pimping him out to you breeders out there.

Cheerful: The FIL went to far-off exotic places for vaction: what does he bring back? A stained glass rooster plate.​

Oh no? Whoo hoo? I don't know what to think. Th bloomehonnes in the pictures are NOT the standard coloring we have seen in the 1070 birds existing in Sweeden. --the people who have these birds register with the gene bank, so I don't know......

Is anyone else having an Iron Cross Blister Beetle infestation? We're overrun with them! I was quite worried when I saw one go into the chick's run, but the chicks are smart enough to leave them alone! The looked at it and then just walked away. They must give off a smell or something that humans can't detect. I'm never a fan a pesticides around my house but I made DH run to Wally World to buy some Sevin to spray everywhere. They were consuming my garden.

No blister beetles (more than normal) but I did notice there was serious white flies in the big brooder, under/near the water dish. At first I thuoght they were lice of some sort, but a picture search showed they were not---plus the bugs were uninterested in the chickens, and the little chicks were going ape #&$* trying to eat them. So, I moved the big water pan & let them have at it.

I am thinking it just may have been a cool wet place for those white flies to hang out during the day. However, I did spit out my gum, just in case.

This weekend: tossing small chickens into the garden, under the cabbages. See ya aphids/white flies!

Laugh all you want, but he is the type of person who will be offended if it is not prominantly displayed--but it is one of those ones you can find at the dollar store on the right day. *sigh* I knew Christmas was the beginning of the end.
