Beautiful beautiful chicken!. . . .and a really nice picture, too!

Well, it seems the "problem" with my not getting notices has to do with the fact that the site is not loading properly on my computer. I can "reply" at work, but at home, the reply button and the new thread button are missing. . . .very odd. . . .this is a new development on my same old computer. . . .so don't know what to do. . . .(certified computer idiot here).

Miss Broody Autumn will go back into the big coop this afternoon. . . .to see if the seperation and wire bottom coop "worked". . . it will have been nearly 3 days. Wish me luck!

Good morning all! Not much going on here. I am still a one-eyed pirate and somewha useless. Who wants to come over, read me a sotry, and mop my floors?

This last hatch wasn't a TOTAL bust, after all was said and done, i have two teeeeeny tiny Alohas (Sommer was cracking up, trying to figure out which of her hens laid those eggs) and a turkey. I have 4 turkeys hatch, but 2 were weak from the beginning, and one failed to thrive. I put that one down; drama-free.

Also, I think I mentioned I got a Reptipro for my bday a while back? It stopped heating (hence this crappy hatch) so I called the company. They are a small company, so I ended up talking to the owner himself, a nice man named Chris. He is sending me a new incubator for free! He asked me to see if the busted one would cool--so I could at least have a beer cooler.

I love great customer service!

Thanks T.T. I thought I was logged in, but I will check it! Seems like a logical explanation, and something I would be "unaware of". . . .. Thanks again!

Hi guys!! We are back from our mini'vacation in Peñasco, somehow we are both rested and tired. It was very nice to do absolutely nothing for two days, though!

RedRocketRooster - I feel your pain!! I used to get 2-3 UTI's a year forever. My magic solution was suggested by an urgent care doc: he said to start taking acidophilus supplements, 2 daily, and see if that helped. He also said if it didn't help that I should look into acupuncture. This was amazing to me that a doctor would suggest alternative therapies. Anywho, I never had to go the acupuncture route because the acidophilus worked! I recommended it to another friend who had UTI issues and she reports success as well.

P.S. - There is a book called "The Water Method Man" about a guy with a "long and winding urethra"

In chickenland, we are sooo happy with our new girl we got from NoSkiveez! She's a gorgeous black and white polish. She is currently in the holding pen in the run, where everyone can meet and greet but not peck. I know I'll have to throw her in eventually but I'm nervous they will peck her TOO much. Am I being too sensitive? Should I just let them establish pecking order and deal with it?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Cheerful2 - you have started me on a ridiculous project! I've uncovered my grandmother's great grandparents and then her great great grandparents, and debunked a family story. The only cruddy part is that I can't find half of the dates!

Now I'm mostly trying to piece together the information in the old family albums. The person labeling assumed everyone would know who his mom and dad were, so none of those are labeled... and we have no idea what their names are. A lot just give the last name. Some are on the old tins!

This should be my great great great great grandmother. Could it really be that old?

Well, I am not getting the notices either. I did just change my security program, so I am going to try adding the web site (BYC) to the allowed websites and see if that helps.

I *heart* that beard.

Super-productive morning. Taped the pirate patch on, put on the glaucoma glasses, and went too work.
-Scooped, scraped, and refreshed the shavings in the coop.
-cleaned out all the "garbage" that accumulates in the run. ie-used costco boxes, bags, pieces of paper that make their way in there.
-cut holes in some liberated postal boxes--I put them under the eggplant as pull-out nesting boxes. The Aloha pullets like to lay under there, but *ick*.
-Made a chicken ladder for the brooder--took out the Costco boxes, since those chicks are roosting now.
-Moved the roosting ladder (an actual ladder) from the "winter" position to the "summer" position.
-turned a few red bread flats/bins upside down, put a waterer on them, and then threw a bunch of carrot seeds under it. Maybe they'll come up, maybe not.
-picked up all the solar lights, reburied them,or hung them where chooks cannot dig them up.

Finally-I hung up some drapes along the run...it looks hilariously awful! eventually I will have vines growing there, but until then *snicker* i look forward to the DH trying to agree with me when I say, "Dont they look cuuuuuuttte?"

Muahahahhahahaha!

azmotogirl -
welcome-byc.gif
and Welcome to the AZ thread.

Mohonri - thanks for the confirmation on night being the vulnerable time. That will help me. Much appreciated.

Blue Cochin is lovely. Like the story about the 2 year old.

RRR - Many (though not all, depends on exactly what is going on) have reported that Cranberry pills, twice a day, consistently help considerably. Probiotics (including acidophilus) is a great idea.

donop - sounds like a great doctor and a rare find. Good luck with your integration. Glad the vacation turned out well

Laree - hope your eyes get better soon. Am looking forward to pic's of the turkeys.

Tucson Tofu - I am soo excited for you! How fun! Ok, given you have toddlers, I'll assume you are in your 20's and that each mother/grandmother was 21 on average at the birth of the next child...that would make your gggg gma born about 1859. Say she is 35 in the picture...would make the picture from about 1894. It is probably even later than that because all the mothers were probably not 21 when the next child was born...if a child or two in between was the younger of 8-10 kids, then that could easily add 10 plus years to the timeline). At any rate 1894 for the picture is quite possible.
