Arizona Chickens

Star jasmine is fine for chickens. Leaves flowers and steams. If they gorge it can change the consistency of their stool to a paste but I doubt they will eat (or can) that much.

Laree, Yeah I know it is.

Never got around to watching it, I just read the beginning of the novels and became really bored. The art wasn't even that fun to look at.

DD is squeeling with delight over the prospect!!

Then she'll be really excited when they get to your house. They are neat to watch and their fro is so cute. My daughter and son are very into the polish too. My dd's favorite are the golds. Ds likes the buff's.

Good morning to everyone. Been bussy so of course I had to read another 10+ pages to catch up with everyone.

My broody GLW is still sitting strong on the 15 silkie eggs I put under her. I put the eggs under her on 5/21 so we are on day 6! I don't remember if I mentioned it before or not but she has been sitting for three weeks now. It was a mess that I made to get eggs for her and it took forever so we are hpoing she will be able to hatch them since she is just so dedicated.

A funny side note about the silkie eggs. I told hubby that I wanted to get silkie eggs for her to hatch and showed him what a silkie looked like since he didn't know. He said thats fine he will like getting a laugh anytime he goes out to the chicken coop.

I told him they lay a smaller egg. When the eggs arrived and he got home I showed him the eggs and his mouth dropped. He said he couldn't believe how small they were. He said about the only good thing those eggs would be for is to make bite sized develed eggs.

Folks always seem to like my "mixed size" deviled eggs from my "mixed size" flock, too.. . . .hmmmm, maybe they just like deviled eggs? Just boiled up a dozen for the Memorial day picnic we are planning for Sunday. . . .

the girls are slowing down on the laying right now. . . .but not moulting yet. . . .I suspect that will be next. . . .

I am excited for that.

My kids (3 & 5 yrs) are going to get a kick out of such little eggs since they are used to getting the large eggs from our other hens.

GOOD LUCK! GO GOOSE BABIES!

Deviled eggs- remember those fresh eggs are a devil to peel---so let them get "old" for a while (someone told me 3 weeks?), or do the "boil in salt water" thing.

I have yet to get it right.

Get one of those egg steamers...they are electric and hold like 8 eggs at a time. They sit on the counter and you put in a little bit of water and it steam cooks the eggs. I have one from the early 80's and they work great, got it at a thrift store.....my mom had one when I was little and still has it.....that is why I knew that it worked. I can put in eggs from today, let them cook, take them out and cool them down, then they peel just great.

I have an Oster egg cooker. You poke a hole in the bottom of the egg and "steam-boil" them to soft, medium or hard. You just put the eggs in, fill to the desired water level, push the button and wait about 10 mins. It'll do poached too (only 4 at a time).
They're a breeze to peel this way. You can only cook 8 at a time, though.

Like I need more junk in my kitchen...

Your Tofuboy is an explorer--he keeps getting out of that teeny weeny part of the run that is not covered. I bought more netting, but the DH said, "It takes to long to do it myself"---because the 15 min it would take for him to cover that last little bit is WAAAY more work than the 30 minutes he spends each night chasing Tofuboy around the neighborhood.

Anywhoo- caught Tofuboy last night, and uber-clipped his wings. He pouted all night.

There is another way! Can't remember which "chicken forum" I learned this one on. . . .but it works.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. . . . insert (fresh) eggs. . ...boil for14 minutes, immerse immediatly in ice water. . . .they peel beautifully. . . .I have been doing this for a long time now. . . .have had one egg (and only one) that did not peel beautifully. . . . .
