yep, I think everyone is trying to rehome roos right now. I rehomed 3 and have 2 left to rehome. Had a call on my bantam frizzle cochin but I guess that fell thru, we kept playing phone tag.

My bantams are a pair but Im rehoming him anyway. She will survive

I might have a smaller type pullet that you might be interested in. Im trying to limit my chicken population. I had an explosion and they kept multiplying
wink.png

I may take you up on that pullet - have to check with the BF

Is she bantam or? How old, what kind, etc? We are trying to limit our population by rehoming our roo before he gets any ideas

We just don't have the room for more than 4.....I'm sure other folks have said the same thing and ended up with more anyway, but I really mean it!

She is an Aloha Project chick. Her mom was a small bantam type and her dad was a Large Fowl chicken.
I believe her DOB is 3-1-10 She is going to be a smaller/Medium size chicken

Here she is (the White/black/brown spotted one) next to a Large fowl cochin chick...
sorry not the best pic of her.

If you are interested just PM me. I will keep her otherwise. She is sweet.

can someone please help me? I posted a ? in emergencies and no one seems to be responding to it. it's titled" 7 w old BO temporary paralyisis...merek's?" yes, i am new and thought i read everything there was to read but there must be hidden subtitles out there or i am just not cut out for this.

Sock- she is lovely! *sigh* too much barring though.

Today I made a chicken ladder out of some scrap 2x4, harware cloth, and a closet door I found during Scottsdale bulk trash. WhoOPS! My ghetto is showing....let me just tuck that back in there. *tucktucktuck*

Anywhoo, I felt bad for my heavy hens. Even with the REAL ladder in there, they still fly up & down. I worry about them injuring (or re-injuring) themselves. Poor Nugget's bumblefoot is just not getting better. I am going to have to set up a shaded cage for her & order some injectable antibiotics. I have also been forbidden from soaking her feet in the tub...warm water= chicken poo. Once everything is in order I'll have to set up a chicken spa

We have 4 hatched chicks so far. 3 are a leghorn/silver laced Wyandotte mix and 1 is a silver laced Wyandotte. We still have about 30 more eggs. The mixed chicks are quite interesting looking. Hubby has pretty much done this hatch all on his own, I've been too busy with the twins (they are teethin) and trying to get back to normal after the csection, so I havent done anything to help. I'm so proud of him. He was estatic when the first one hatched.

If you need help with that chicken spa my DD is an expert. She gets a tub of water and adds "all natural botanicals" (leaves and flowers from around the yard). She only charges the hens a hug apeice after she chases them down. They do seem to enjoy the me time but they frequently get shreiked at for helping themselves to a snack of botanicals.

Just got on for the first time since Friday. Glad to see everyone's comments.

AZKat - glad to hear good news about the boys adjusting to baby brother and your DH getting better too.

Mohonri - I think of the 18 eggs I got from you 17 were fertile, but remember you told me one egg was from a hen the rooster didn't pay much attention to. I suspect the 3 other eggs that didn't hatch might have if we hadn't moved them during what is supposed to be "lock down". Mother was on watch and didn't know and was very worried because there wasn't enough room in the tiny nest box for the hatchlings to be with their momma.

Incubators & Hatchors: Congrats on the fertile eggs and new babies. Sorry about the eggsplosion mess. Sounds dreadful.

Roosting Birds: Loved the pictures of the birds shoulder roosting and the one watching the candling process.

pastrymama - how's you sick one doing? It is so hard when one is ill and you just don't know what to do. The forum is so big these days that it can be very hard to get attention to posts. I hope you found some direction.

And

for the hard days to those feeling a bit beat up by the world, especially to the one whose mother isn't coming and to TofuRanch on her legal stuff.

Rooster Re-homing: I am told Mesa Feedbarn will take them on occasion. Also, if you are up for them going to freezer camp, I might know some people that would be interested. PM me.

GOOD-BYE to Fire Brown Eyes. We put one of our hens down yesterday. It is relief to have her gone but still tugs at my heart strings. She had an injury of some kind that got infested with maggots before I realized there was an injury. It was pretty awful. We tried a few things, but in then end my mother took her home and she and her husband sent her on to her next existence. It has been a lesson to me. Sometimes we need to let them go. I feel at peace with the decision, but tear up a little as I write this. It was a tough weekend dealing with her and her maggots and trying to decide what to do.

Chick report: They are all still alive and running around! They are a joy to watch.

Cheerful, Sorry to hear about your girl. Letting go is so very hard...

:O So the pullet I have complaining about being too loud...blew her last chance this morning. The whole block heard that beak and that is a terrible way for an HOA illegal to be heard.
Is there any possible way for me shut that pullet up or make her disappear without my Easter Egg feeling lonely?

This is the worst timing for this too. I'm leaving on the 9th to a wedding back east until the 17th.

Cheerful-So sorry to hear about the chicken. Putting one down is hard.

RRR-ugh. Thats a lousy situation, maybe the chicks will be enough to keep your other chicken company. Or maybe you could rehome both of them. That isn't a ideal solution, I know, but its better than getting caught.

In other mildly depressing chicken news, I snuck out to collect the eggs with the broody was on her lunch break, and one of the eggs that had been incubating had a crack in it, I suspect it had been stepped on. I opened it up, and based on when it was set, it looked like it was a quitter anyway. I'm not surprised, it was a porous egg, and I'd read that those don't hatch as well. I was honestly surprised that it started developing, as her eggs hadn't been fertile in the past. Still, its a little disappointing.

I hear you...So far the houses around me have said they are aware of their presence, like watching them and that they aren't loud. I am afraid I will be pushing my luck with the neighbors with Oatmeal now louder than ever. My Father thinks that the HOA might only become involved when the neighbors complain since the coop isn't very visible from over the fence.

Ugh this sucks. When I go near the coop/run the noise erupts. Maybe if I stay out of there and came back after my trip the chicks will be big enough to live in a cage in the run. I mean, Pooky the EE is not nearly as loud as her, are RIR meant to be loud?

ALL- thank you for the

and nice words. It means a lot. I thought I was ok, but I think I was just in shock yesterday. It has been helpful to share with you and hear your kind words.

My thought on this is that Pooky will have a happier life if she can stay with you ... and if she need to be lonely for a few weeks to do that, that is well worth it. Once the HOA is involved...you may loose your chance to have them. Just a thought. At my house the chicks run with the hens. The hens tolerate a lot from the chicks...but BA's are gentle to start with and they have known the chicks since they were a few days old...and the chicks have mommas to watch over them. Maybe your Dad can go say hi to Pooky every day while your are gone.

AZKat - sorry about the eggs. We never opened the egg that didn't hatch. Our hearts just weren't up to it. And like I said, we were sick at the thought it might have been our fault they didn't hatch. I was shocked that I felt greif over 3 un-hatched eggs. But mother and I both did.
