I do need to update that. I now have 6 laying hens and 15 silkie eggs under her plus 10+ being delivered and now 12 ducks. Good thing I have a very supportive hubby.

LareePQG~ I think that is my favorite pic too.

Wow, I've been gone since Thrusday night and it took me forever to catch up. The laying hens I got from Mahonri (hope to see you back soon) have adjusted and started laying. We collected our first egg yesterday and while we were out of town our neighbor picked up 2 on Fri 1 Sat 0 Sun 2 Mon. Here is our first egg from them.

Here is a group shot of the girls That I got from him, the Delaware and the BO are the ones laying the Ancona he said was just starting to lay more I'm guessing that being flighty she probably is taking a little longer to adjust to her new pad.

I think I've named the Ancona "Bacon" due to that big ol' comb of hers .

I haven't been around much....but yesterday I took a road trip to Sommer's and Shaun's houses

Sommer is the one that had the turkeys that Laree posted a pick of...well 13 of them are now at my house and I am trying to figure out who stays here and who goes to my friends house....

Shaun....the girls are all set up in their new Temp area and are adjusting...they will have a bit before they go in with the big bad roo.....LOL I even got an egg after we got home. I just knew all the way home that she really wanted to lay an egg but in the car it didn't happen. Really with the 3 big ones and 13 turkeys the car ride home was pretty quiet.

Off to get pictures

Those three hens came from Mahonri and I believe he said they hatched in march of last year. My original six that are now three hatched at the end of the third week in February and I'm waiting to see when the start laying they are starting to look like grown ups.

Mahonri -- Don't go!

joel david -- "Bacon" is Perfect!

I am getting 2 cuckoo marans and 2 cochins tomorrow! So, when everyone starts laying in the Fall/Winter I will have an even more colorful egg basket.

I tried steam cooking hard cooked eggs yesterday. They were two days old and peeled like a dream. Thanks Mahonri!

ok so is it better to give my banty broody eggs or chicks? Either way when they become chicks how much space do i need to give them?? Is an area 4ft by 2 ft ok or is that too small if i only get a few. If she has only been broody for about a week should i just do chicks in another week - two weeks or?

Sorry just unsure how to deal with this one. I have tried breaking her many many different ways and she is darn stubborn. sooo she is intent on having babies i figure i should give her some.

ANyone have any dark egg layers eggs? or basically who in phoenix area has eggs? just need like 6 i would think since she is a banty. She has collected all the golf bals i had out there (9) and is sitting on all of those now. I have tried removing them but then all the other girls who are layers laid all over the place and she still just sat there or where ever she could sit. I moved her into a very wet puddle area of the yard today to see what would happen and she just ran back to her nest area and sat...

Anyway your feedback is appreciated.

Shaun

I'll PM you a local breeder who has Barnevelders and other dark layers about all year long. I would skip the eggs and replace hers with chicks if shes had them for a while?
CRAP. I totally lost her name and number.
