Arizona Chickens

i know this is kinda not the same, but when i asked my neighbor if he minded if i had chickens he was so super ecstatic because he had always wanted to do it but never did. then he asked if i planned on having a rooster and i said well, if i happen to have one or two or three, i will rehome them. and then i asked him what he thought would be louder, a rooster on the other side of his wall or my 2 year old beagle? he said nothing is louder than my beagle, especially now that we have chickens in the backyard! then he gets my cattledog going and it's just awful.

i'm sorry mahonri. i would take some of your beauties in a heartbeat. but like i said last night with vacation coming soon, i can't. and we may be gone longer than planned now. MIL called this AM and FIL was just given maybe a month so we may have to take an extra 2 trips out of state to see him to say goodbye and for the funeral. it breaks my heart.

So sorry about your FIL. It is hard to say goodbye

Tucson Tofu - I am so happy the chicks are hatching! I was a little worried that something might go wrong in transportation. I am so glad it is working out! Pictures are welcome!

GCK - (hoping that is the right person) Thank you for the report that your broody hatched last summer. Very good to know.

Hugs all around to those that need them....I understand loss and I am in the middle of dealing with some myself. I don't think that it matters what you loose it is hard and often feels unfair. I do believe everything happens for a reason, it might not be what we are willing to hear. I hope everyone is able to get past the loses in your life......

Now on a more upbeat note....

It is good to see pictures of broody's with babies. I am so excited...we have a broody that is getting toward the time of the eggs hatching. I was really good and I haven't touched the eggs at all so I have no idea what will hatch. This is only the second time using a broody at my house so I can't wait. The broody is a Buff silkie....she has a mixture of 8 eggs under her. I think that two of the eggs are hers and I just stuck the rest under her and she accepted them right up..she has a couple of more days

Here are some pictures of the Aloha eggs that I hatched out

very cool...those two pictures are of two different birds....I was having a hard time taking the pictures. I have about 10 that are kind of like those

What cute chicks!

Mahonri I'm sorry you have to rehome your chickens.

I vote for a bag of flaming poo on the door step.

A bit off topic, but I grew up in the dobson ranch hoa area and everytime my parents brought the motor home to pack it fir a trip, the same day we would get a notice saying it had been parked there too many days. We knew who was doing it because she would complain to the Hoa if someone had an ugly car and say it didn't run. My mom got fed up and bought a car that was running but in ugly shape and she havent my brother $20 to beat the car up and we painted it multicolors of florecent paint, wrapped duct tape around the mirrors and my mom would dive it all around our neighborhood saying hello to everyone she saw on Saturday and sundays and she drove it to every hoa meeting and showed it off to everyone there like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, and the rest of the week it was parked in our driveway. It wasnt long before that lady dropped off the hoa board and moved to sun city.

HI guys,

Well, we moved to Queen Creek as planned. The land had some dumped piles of junk ( was a foreclosure and someone dumped their garbage on it). We hired someone to clean it up but found they moved a lot of the small stuff around the garden and chicken area....My chickens did their thing and started digging as they do and dug up some white chalk like building material this hired man moved just under the surface. I have complained but he puts me off and He is not taking care of the issue. I dug up and cleand a smaller area to encourage them to avoid the bad space and dig in the soft new space...they do... but I notice the egg shells are getting softer, so break.. I think they are eating some of it.

I write cause I need to know of a landscaper or bulldozer person who can clean this land again and make it safe for the chickens....from what i see it looks like it might be about 1 to 2 ft deep across the back section of the acre..what a mess.

Mahonri. . . .I can probably "adopt" one of your young hens. . . .and would like to know what you have available, and prices, of course. Maybe something that I don't already have. . . Marans? Cochin? I am committed to maintaining a very diverse flock. . . .I am just enchanted with each of their seperate personalities. . . .I am, of course, hoping that you experience a "miracle" and that you get to keep them. . . .I had a neighbor who was not quite right mentally, and who harrassed me constantly. . . .came home from work one day to find a "for sale" sign in her yard. . ..so these things do happen. Best to you. Carol
