Arizona Chickens

Hello eveyone! Sorry I have been out lately. I am on a "staycation" and trying to get my enourmous "To-do" list done. Here is some of my progress:

Put up the porch:
Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Roofing next week (hold off Monsoons!)

Work on the evil quilts. I am NOT a seamstress--in fact, I am TERRIBLE at sewing. But I REALLY wanted to turn the kids' onsies into quilts, so....

Anyway, I need to get back to work. Lots to do this week....

I hope everyone is doing well.

Mahonri-- Call me if you want something from WR or The Stock Shop. Headbonk= free Laree delivery.

Thanks. I havent sewn since I was a Brownie. The quilt is definately a bit ghetto. Now I need to start kid #2's. I am off to buy some more fabric...I found this lovely "pre-batted" quilted fabric for the backing. I TOTALLY cheated on the back. Muahahahahha!

Hopefully my sons will be smart enough to marry a woman smart enough NOT to criticize my crappy sewing skills. I'd hate to squash my future DILs.

Porch is looking good! Are you doing deck or pavers under it or flagstone or something? My wife has a drawer FULL of old punkrock tee shirts that I've thought about sewing together and making her a dress with... in my spare time.

Pavers.

On saturday I picked up 2.5 pallets and a super-nice awning for $20 at a garage sale. The pavers dont match the size we already have, but they will work as a "border" or something. The awning is for the chooks. Needs minor repairs, but still good.

The awning is like a gazebo/carport. Nicer than this:

but cheaper than this one

It isnt set up yet...so you'll have to wait for a picture.

What is everyone doing for Independence day? I need to figure something out to entertain a two year old and a three year old in the heat and I really don't have a pool an gazebo like I just said. Does anyone have a resort pool preference?

Desert Ridge for sure. Did that one when I was preggers with Ronin.

My MIL was at the Point Hilton (river ranch) this last weekend, and I didn't enjoy it half as much. Soooo busy, poorly laid out, dirty rooms, took them 4 extra hours to get my disabled MIL her reserved room, etc. Spent all of day 2 in the regular pool, which was much, much more fun.

Mohonri - congrat's on 8 eggs. Nice.

Sock - sounds like a wonderful roo. Hope you find him a nice home.

NoSkiveez - Congrat's on the hatch and thank you for the offer for my broodies.

gckiddhouse - too bad about the roo. Hope the honking sneeze turns out to be nothing.

newchickmom09 Hurray for female duck! Loved the story about the momma hen. My momma hens did that too. I was amazed at how soon those babies could fly up to the roosts.

Laree - I could easily turn into

if I think too hard about that beautiful porch and gazebo. Nicely done! As for the quilt...what a great gift of memories for you and family.

PS Tucson Tofu - I still laugh a little when I think about the cookies and zonked out hubby story.

(extended family illness got in the way)
We might wait until the fall now, though. The chickens are free-ranging the yard eating bugs (as we speak) and I don't know if the meal worms will survive in the garage in this heat!
