Arizona Chickens

Well said Rufus. I sure wouldn't want to be in your situation with two hungry pit bulls running around the neighborhood. Our options in the city for dealing with such things are more limited than our country friends. Good luck.

Bob's Henhouse: The aftermath of the dog attacks must have been a hard thing to find upon returning home.

Gallo, it was ............. fill in the blank with your choice of, devestating, horendous, sickening. Fortnately my boys were at their mom's both times, so they didn't see it. They were heartbroken, but at least didn't have to actually see it.
Rufus, I don't think that the owners would care about the smell, but I LIKE the idea! LOL They appear to be outside dogs, so no smelly furniture, and for good or bad we don't have skunks here...yet. LOL We seem to have everything else. I caught a fox a few months back in a box trap, and relocated him to a brushy area by a wash a few miles away, and a few miles from houses, to start a new life.
Becky, I'd take them, but have about a dozen full grown roosters to get rid of already.

Oh Bob, that makes it even harder when kids are involved. You were lucky that they didn't find it first. I have to say, I might have been discouraged from keeping chickens after that. Good for you not letting it deter you.

OMG you guys I am having withdrawal symptoms ... for some reason BYC got blocked at work so I haven't been able to log on!! I don't usually have that much time to go online in the evenings so it's either at work or nuthin'

And of course this happens when I have great news: I found a green egg!! I must have counted wrong or something ... who knows, the point is I am the proud owner of a pointy olive green egg, woohoo!!

I REALLY hope this tiny little thing is s sign that my bad luck streak is over. I got a letter from the IRS asking for a boatload of money, then I got rearended, then my car got declared a total loss, argh!!

Thankfully no one got hurt in the accident, we still have our jobs and our health, the driver had insurance, I have insurance, and really it could have been much worse. It just sucks to be carless and now I have to go used car shopping. Ugh.

Anywho enough of my rants and raves. I'm gonna go get some Chick-Fil-A and count my blessings

yay - green eggs! I can't wait for my EEs to start laying. I hope their eggs are green.

Does anyone know of a feed store or somewhere that carries hardware cloth in stock? Mine came in from the place I ordered it, and after driving about 1/2 hour to pick it up, they wanted to charge me nearly twice what they had quoted on the phone. I probably would have just paid it, I'm so desperate to get these chicks into a coop, but she was completely rude about it like it was somehow my fault. Anyways, Higley Feed can special order it, but it will take about two weeks and I'd rather not wait.

Hey all,

My coop problems seem to be better. No more respiratory thingy, no bugs or eggs on any of the chickens I looked at today, bumble foot surgery didn't go all that well, but it is done for now. Egg eater has been leaving her eggs, and the coop is clean. We raked it out again and spread a ton of DE and Peretherin powder in the dirt for them to dust bathe in. We spayed the orange stuff that someone recommended (it is a natural pesticide) and put new bedding in the boxes. All seems on the mend.

Although, the other day, dd went out to find one of the Polish girls in trouble. She was panicked! "Mom, Kevin is stuck and she is bleeding!!". She had gotten her saddle stuck on the waterer and was really stuck. The other chickens were pecking at her and she was really bleeding. If dd hadn't gone out there that morning, they would have pecked her to death. Poor thing. She and another Polish are currently living in the garden. They will be okay until they devour all the green things and have no more cover. It isn't predator proof, so they can't stay in there long. But in this heat, I hate to try to keep them in a cage. They still have the itchy skin and I don't know what it is, but some of their feathers are coming back. Those two are just a problem. I hope they get better soon. Ugh.

I also wonder what happened to my green egg layer. She hasn't layed a single egg in over 2 months. Hmm.

I have a friend that is moving out of state. She has a mini pygmy goat that needs a home. She also has a full grown pot bellied pig. They have lived together, but they can be separated. Anyone interested?

It wasn't me, but I believe MaryAnn dropped off a few that she hatched from you there. I thought they were all roosters, but not sure.

Okay - I know I'm late, but I just now read this. I did drop off some beautiful roosters there, including some Pure Wheatens, but the pretty roo that pdx2phx
bought from the Stock Shop was not one of mine.
