Your not going to find anything in town that's quality. Powells only carries Arizona Feed. I don't even bother with Coolidge. I end up going to Phoenix every 7-10 days for feed. I'm getting Purina at the Mesa Feed barn.

Powell's is definitely too high! Are you using Layena? Coolidge had OK prices, but DDGS (most likely from the Maricopa ETOH plant) is the main ingredient. They also put mineral oil in the starter :-(
How did you decide on Mesa Feed Barn? Have you any experience with other places in the east valley?

Sorry to hear about your chick. I've used big gravel in a water dish, and (so far) no problems. Did the same for the Muscovy ducklings, but now they are half the size of the laying hens, and swim or splash whenever they can

I have a hard time viewing powells as anything more than a gift shop. Everything is priced really high. In coolidge the one on the main strip just changed hands and it seems like he isn't too concerned with stocking things. The one by the tracks, I haven't been in yet. I frequently head into mesa to a fruit & veggie market and often can pick up a shopping cart sized basket of fruit/veggies for $2-4 for the chickens. Plus too, I am familiar with the area. I have only tried AZ Feed, Egg Maker and Layena. The AZ brand and egg maker seem to be about the same quality.
