Arizona Chickens

Finally went outside this morning to check on the chooks and collect 2 days worth of eggs ... found 2 eggs. 2! Sheesh.

Other than some caked feed in the feeder (fixed that), they seemed fine. Whew!

Mahonri - sorry to hear about the windshield. I saw the coverage on the news and was quite surprised. Sounds like there's more storm coming too.

Hatch day was on the 4th. Nothing hatched. I left them all in the Bator and I have 12 chicks in there today. 3 are BWA, 1 FBCM, and the rest are either Silkies or SLW. There are quite a few I can't see in the back. I figured it would be a delayed staggered hatch with the 86* temp I had in there mid incubation. I'm hoping more dark eggs hatch.

My broody silkie started with 5 eggs. She's managed to break 4 of them. I'm planning on giving her a few chicks to see how that goes.

Still hunting for a newer car.

The Ins. co. is sending Sunstate over to put a new windshield on my vehicle tomorrow.

My niece got caught on I-17 under Thomas Road and had water in her vehicle up to her belly button.

They hope they can salvage the car. I guess I got off easy.

Many had their windows or skylights broken out so I'm grateful.

I repaired my pen, cleaned out the soaked feeders and gathered a whopping two eggs.

one was a new pullet egg.. nice and BLUE so I boiled it. Delish.

My SO's rental house had 5 of 7 skylights broken, but nothing else. Had pretty mild day on the west side. Was a beautiful day to be out working, with the breeze and cooler weather. I heard Home Depot was out o replacement skylights first thing this morning.

How are you guys in Flag fairing?

Hi, Wickenburg here. (new)

Where do you AZ chicken people get your feed? I am just starting and am looking for a good feed supplier (local or shipping).

Soon to have Minorcas, Anconas and Delawares.

Welcome to BYC ca,

I've been to quite a goodly number of feed stores here in the Valley.

Rays in South Phoenix.
Tempe Feed & Tack
Western Ranchman
The Pet Depot

The two that I've been to that are closest to you are

The Stock Shop.. 67th Ave and Thunderbird

and

The Feed Barn.. 20th Ave and Adobe.

I'd bet there is something closer to you... perhaps even in Wickenburg.

I go to The Feed Barn now most often because I LOVE the Manna Pro, Egg Maker. Best quality stuff I've been able to find at a great price.

Thanks Mahonri! I know the Stock shop in Glendale. We have a store here in Wickenburg ("DD") I have to check their brands and sortiment. I was thinking of maybe mixing myself... So just wondering what the more experienced chicken-addicts are doing. And I thought it would be harder to find ingredients in stores than to find ready mnixed feed. I'll go visit the Feed Barn too

The pumps never came on, or so it seems. There is an 18 to 20 foot wide drainage tunnel running underground from the northside of town down to the Salt River. It pretty much follows the route of I-17. At the interchange at Northern, it was about 400 foot down. The last time they reworked the freeway, they dug such a deep hole there.

One day I and the wife were watching the work, and an eighteen wheeler came out of an access hole that was where the median is now. We couldn't believe it.

Hello ca

I get my feed from Double D in Wickenburg, Serenity Tack and Feed on Grand also sells chicken feed. Double D seems to be the cheapest. Pratts at Grand and Thunderbird and The feed store on Waddell west of Litchfield?(not sure of exact location or name sorry) also have food, but they are more expensive. They carry different brands than Double D. Double D has Sun Valley Brand which I understand comes from California somewhere.

Good luck on mixing your own food, if you come up with something that works and seems cheap enough I would be very interested in it.

I just looked up the chickens you are getting very interesting. I love having different breeds.

Qwest came by the office today to try to repair the phones from the storm damage.

Still no phone.

Sun State came by to replace my windshield but they noted that it was 'infared' with the rain sensors and they didn't have that one so they said they'll come Monday.

Since the storm my chickens have stopped laying! Went from 8 and 9 a day to 2 or 3.

I have another broody. I'm going to try and move her tonight and put a dozen eggs under her.
We'll see what happens.
