Arizona Chickens

Tucson Tofu--Nice and interesting looking chicken. How much do you want for that bird? I live right here in Tucson and could pick it up.

Tanichca--Hi there! It's always nice when other Tucsonans check in.

Bob's Henhouse--hope your hatches work. Nice incubator.

NoSkiveez--I don't know if it's the small egg, but the other look huge! Nice color arrangement.

Lyongirl--congratulations on the impending chicks!

The small one is a coturnix quail. They are 10 week old already. The same row with the quail is bantam eggs. 2 phoenix, silkie and the first polish in months! The other eggs are EE, silver Wyandottes or buff Orpingtons.

Bob's Henhouse :

Beverlyl, did you buy that pallet of feed you were talking about? I'm down to where I'm needing to buy some more, but prefer pellets. I called Double D and they said they had Southwest feeds pellets or crumbles for $1140, but if you buy 40 bags they take 10% off, for a net of $10.26 a bag. If you don't need a whole pallet I'd split it with you if they will let you mix crumbles and pellets. Wickenburg is about as far as Dales for me.

I don't have any where to store the feed yet. I am looking for a storage unit, that is rat proof, the last place got invaded by mice/rats. For now I am getting 5-10 bags at a time, I can store them in metal trash cans. If I ever find a storage shed I will let you know. Thanks for the offer.

Does anyone else have lazy chickens? Mine have taken a break from laying. They have been dropping off the last few weeks and today we were given 1, count 'em, 1 egg...out of 14 hens. I know the days are getting shorter, but sheesh!

We are finally rolling in eggs! Out of our 17 that can lay, we have at least 10, possibly 11 that are laying!! The three Polish, a half Polish, an Ameraucana, and a couple who are still molting are not laying yet. But we are hopeful!! We were gone for 5 days last week and at least 5 chickens started laying while we were gone. My nephew picked up 10 eggs on Friday! We got like 7 today. Last week 5 was the most we had gotten! We are ready to start selling them!

Unfortunately, the BRs and the BOs all lay the same colored eggs. I like more variety. The PR lays the same color, too.
Mahonri, as soon as I have a broody, I will be wanting some of those Marans eggs!! Not that I need any more chickens!

The meaties are doing well. I am going to have to put one of them down. It's leg is all splayed out and he can't walk on it. Ugh.

We were up north last week. Followed the storms up. Saw the damage in Bellmont! WOW! Unbelievable!

We didn't get hail at our house, but wind and rain! DH was overseeding the grass at the time. It was quite funny to see him out there in the storm spreading dirt over the seed. At least it got a good first watering.

Welcome to the new zonies on the thread!!

Actually, mine are just starting to lay again after the heat. I got 5 from 5 today and 4 yesterday.
We took the chicks outside for the first time yesterday. Maybe the ladies are feeling pressure from the new ones.

We finished the brooder coop.

I've got a bunch of free loaders! I got 19 eggs today and I have about 85 pullets. Some haven't started to lay yet, but they will soon. I'm eager for that to happen.

All the polish are molting?

All the pullets just went through a molt. I am still raking up feathers, so someone is still molting. Only one of Polish girls is in with the big flock, and I don't know if she is still molting or not. The other two were in stress situations and are separated, trying to grow some of their feathers back. I don't expect them to be laying yet.
There are several, as I said, that just haven't started yet... Between the summer heat and the molting, we were just waiting... Now this week, 5 new layers! So, soon, we hope.
