^ understament of the year. It aint just cool, its FREEZING!

I hear ya Tanichca. I don't like to be cold, so I pefer the 80's and low 90's.

However, my hens must like this weather, I got 9 eggs today, which is the most I have gotten in a few months

Angie

I got 7 today! But now my ameruacanas are not laying at all. I added 2 new hens to their coop and I think it made the girls upset to have newcomers in their space.

24 HENS AND 1 EGG TODAY.

They are all almost through with their molt.

I've learned my lesson. Drove all the way to the Feed Barn.. they only had two bags of feed! I was not happy. I have their number now and will call before I drive.

That and they've raised the price. It's now $15.55 a bag now... so I got the two bags, a bag of scratch (price has gone up a dollar!)
and some of their triple T and then a couple bags of shavings... so I figure I'll just buy 8 bags of Layena at the Pet Depot on the way home. They didn't have ONE bag! (It's also gone up to $15 a bag... if they would have had any) I was not a happy camper.... that is a LONG drive. I made the mistake of going up the 17 rather than the 51 and it was bumper to bumper, slow and go from the I-10 all they way to Greenway. Seems like it took FOREVER!

Oh, BTW, pastrymama... Feed Barn has a HUGE beautiful Turkey available. I know I've seen you there before.

So excited to get some buff laced polish from Noskiveez.

I'm in Flagstaff and i had to go to a football game tonight!! It was FREEZING!! My family was so cold, that we left at half time!!! It was 46 when we got home, but i'm sure it's much colder now. How are all you other Arizonans takin' the weather?

Good morning! My chickens really do like this weather! The CM finally came out of the molt and is laying. She was so quiet for the last month or so and it's great to have her back to her chatty self.

pdx2phx , that was pretty funny! They could definitely find their niche market right here with that.

Angie, I'm with you on the temperature. Real northerners (which I no longer consider myself) would have laughed at us here yesterday. We were all bundled up and commenting on how freezing it was and for kicks I checked the thermometer and it was 58. It's funny how hot and cold can become so relative.

Tanichca, it certainly felt like it was freezing!

S*T*A*R, I would have left the game with your family.

NoSkiveez, congratulations on selling your Silver Polish!

Mahonri, congratulations on buying your Silver Polish!

5pinkarrows, that was a tragic story. That could happen to anyone, myself included. I used to let my birds out to wander unsupervised all the time and I felt somewhat safe because of the walled yard. I don't let them out anymore unless I'm there.

pastrymama, I know what you mean about MSG and food additives. I have terrible problems with MSG. I wish we had more space here to raise turkeys to eat, I'd do it in a heartbeat. My family always had a turkey flock when I was growing up and I'll tell you, they might be even more addicting than chickens!

We always incubated them in the spring and they would imprint on my brothers and I. They would follow us everywhere. I have a particular memory of chasing a flock of about 30 poults out of the house after they followed one of my smaller brothers inside.

Hope I didn't miss anyone. Have a great Saturday.

The Gold Polish are gone too! The guy who picked up the silver polish talked his wife into the gold polish too. Im rather excited to see them go so I can reclaim their coop space. Rehoming these birds opens up space for us to put the chicks that hatched from Mahonri's eggs and I wont have to build more coops...well my husband wont have to build more coops. We're going to biuld a few smaller coops for roosters. Once I find a home for my buff rooster, then everything will work out much better.

Hmmm, I thought she was keeping the turkey. They told me he is entered in the state fair. FWIW, he bit my 4 year old dgd; startled her more than hurt.

Feed prices can change every time they have a new delivery; sometimes lower, sometimes higher; that's why they aren't posted. If you purchase a certain number of bags, you get a discount, but sometimes you have to ask.

They had always had plenty of everything until time before last, so now I call first.

Mahonri,

I saw that turkey about a month ago at the Feed Barn. It was following john thru the store and my 4 year old got a litle close to it and that darn turkey started chasing my kid in circles thru the store. i told him, my son, to stop running, and that turkey who is bigger than him jumped up in his face and flapped his wings at him. the poor boy started crying. i almost bought that darn turkey right then and there! but it's about 18 months old and would taste like my shoe, so i didn't. i don't want stewed turkey for thanksgiving. i may have to wait until next spring to buy poults and raise them myself. just one more thing to add to the list.
