Arizona Chickens

Yup got shipped birds but they are juvies. I think they are about 10-12 weeks old. She said it was her last hatch of the season so they could be younger. I can't wait to see how the roo fills out... at 12 weeks he is really nice. Many splash roos I've seen have white tail feathers, this one has almost lavender tail feathers... gorgeous.

That's awesome. Are they lavenders? I've seen some ads for lavenders somewhere but I best not look at things. I want to reduce my flock, not add to it. lol.

Today is hatch day. So far I have 1 Americana and a few marans. And a few other things. I'm really hoping all the blue eggs hatch.

The cuckoo marans hen I got yesterday laid a big fat egg today. It went in the fridge. The papa would have been a blue laced red Wyandotte.

Hi everyone! I have yet another question. Hee hee! I have been thinking we need to buy some SQ chickens, even though I have no idea what all that entails. I am still learning about the different breeds and learning what I like/want. There are so many neat breeds that I don't know how you all choose! I know I would like a silkie, a blue laced red wyandotte, and an appenzeller spitzhauben, just to get started. LOL! So, I started thinking about how much SQ birds might cost. I looked in the auction section, and there really isn't much there. I did see a silkie that was not sq since she only has 9 toes, but she was listed for $100!!!!!! Seriously? Is that normal? If that is just for breeding, what are the ones good enough for showing worth? My hubby is barely on board with the chickens as is. There is NO way he would go for that! Please tell me that hen is overpriced. What is a reasonable price for a good quality hen in these three breeds?

Good morning all!

It didn't really hit how much that sucks until I kept having to go to the store to buy 18 packs of eggs the last two weeks.

It is a nice morning outside so far. On anohter plus side I woke up feeling better. I am hoping this cold is finishing up!

NoSkiveez, 3 more in quarentine died, 5 have come back from near death, no one else in the swingset has gotten ill yet so I think the worst is behind me. Thank you again VERY much for all your help. I'll be keeping them in there for an extra month I guess to try and prevent any spread. May even cage them all up and move the whole thing a few feet away after powdering it well to give them a fresh setting, and then cover with a tarp or something the old spot so no one goes diging in there.

$100 for a 9 toed Silkie? Maybe she lays golden eggs. Even without seeing the bird, my guess would be that its over priced. I recently have seen ads for pairs of chickens for outrageous prices. I can't imagine anyone would buy them at the prices the are asking when I've got the same pair for 66+% less...but it only takes one buyer. I once knew a person who spent $2000 on a top quality Rez dog.

Bob - I'm sorry to hear about the losses. I've been keeping my coop powdery to get it under control. I will dust today and next week and the cycle will be broken. I'm glad its just getting under control. I read mites are pretty common.

Today I brought home 2 little baby goats. They are about 10 days old and the cutest thing you've ever seen. I am keeping them separate from my other goat until I feel its okay to put them together. The were a little sneezy in the car and one had snot come out when he sneezed. I started them on Oxytetracycline to treat for anything respiratory, just in case. They need to be bottle fed for a while still. I will post a picture later. They need a bath.
