Arizona Chickens

Mclevinson, did they get your order right? They said they ordered me 1/2 X 1 instead of 1/2 X 1/2, and then told me it cost more if I wanted it or they could reorder for me. She did say she could talk to the boss and see what he could do on the price if I still wanted the wrong wire. I didn't think it was a good deal to pay more for the wrong stuff, then drive probably 80 miles to get it.
I've got to get the mess from the rain cleaned up, put a bunch of sand in the coop as soon as I can get the wheelbarrow through the yard without sinking. Hmmm, maybe I'll use some bricks that I'm getting tired of tripping over, out of the way AND put to use.

WWAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! I know you are disappointed. My 12yo is thinking of raising silkies and polishes when she gets the incubator she is saving up for. Those are the two roosters we have. Now we just need a polish hen. They are so cute!

Ah! Same deal here. But I paid the originally agreed upon price for the 1/2 x 1. Maybe they were tired of my nearly daily calls "Is it here yet? Is it here yet?". LOL. Now I'm putting sand down today after I wrassle the wire out of my mini van.

What a bummer about their order mistake. Around town the 16g 1 x 1/2 welded wire typically costs $80-$100 more per roll than hardware cloth. After freight's factored in there's not much of a markup on each roll. It'd be nice, but surprising, if they offer it for the same price as the cloth. It'd be overkill for coops but what a steal if they do, lol.

I don't imagine even the 1/2 X 1/2 would keep out mice or most snakes, but how does the 1/2 X 1 look? Small enough that the babies won't try and squeeze through? It should be. I ordered 2 rolls, one to use right away, one as needed. I want to keep the birds out of the AZ room, and build a better brooder.

I like overkill. I took a pot shot at a coyote eating the chickens food int eh backyard at about 8 this morning, so I try to make stuff sturdy enough to keep them out, or hidden well enough they don't know to try.

I have a coop made out of the 1" x 1/2" stuff. The littlest of the babies can squeeze through somehow (it looks painful), but only for the first week or so. I imagine that if you put up 6" of skirting around the very bottom it would keep the little ones in.
