Arizona Chickens

pastrymama - Yikes, I hope she gets better. *hugs*

Mahonri - I'm sorry to hear about your little chick

*hugs*

rufus - that sounds good in a weird way!

Beckyhsinglsc - ACK how scary! I know our yard is littered with things like that! I'm sorry about your hen, but at least it isn't contagious.

NoSkiveez- I wish I could buy one of your awesome hens! We have to buy propane this month AND do the septic tank. Another time

AZKat - I hope you feel better, and hopefully the baby doesn't get it. That would be rough on everyone. I hope your FIL is okay!

Gallo del Cielo - I finally caught the wild chicken last week! I was super brave and knocked on the neighbor's door (I think it was the front door, no idea) and gave it back.

It is interesting to hear about the nitrates, I didn't know any of that.

While I'm waiting in line at the grocery store I always look at what other people are buying. I'm always amazed at the amount of artificial crap. Do people have any idea, or do they just not care? Anyways, there should be boundaries on what food stamps will pay for.

I wish I knew how to help other than tell you that I had a pretty sick off-balance chicken 2 weeks ago that recovered.

Becky,
what did you do for her? i just have her isolated in a carrier in the laundryroom. i can't do much tonight and tomorrow i have to go on my twins field trip! i'll be gone all day. all i have is duramyacin 10, and i don't really think that will help in this situation. she's not eating or drinking anymore.

I just put mine in the house in a cage and encouraged her to eat and drink. I temped her with her favorites, especially yogurt. I knew she was getting better when she ate all her tomatoes and wanted more. I also put infant vitamins in her water. That actually seemed to help a lot.
If she isn't eating or drinking you may need to dropper feed/water her. I've never done it, though.
Somebody on the emergency thread mentioned that she might have something in her ear causing infection and dizziness. They also mentioned a head injury.
I never figured it out and I don't know why she recovered.

Hi all,

I'm so sorry to hear about the hen & chick losses, and general icky stuff that's been happening.....

I thought I'd share these two pics from today that made me laugh:

R to L is Damien the MFD, Meaty the NH and Sofa the GLW. They were all staring in the door wondering why the tall chicken wasn't coming out with treats yet and of course looked down as I took the picture...

This one is Naked Chick (OE) roosting in tripod formation on top of two Japanese this eve.

Naked Chick is hilarious, by the way. She'll fly up into our arms and look us in the face and just chortle talk talk talk....

I was once at the fish counter and a man was buying lobster and they asked if he wanted it steamed no he said no because food stamps won't pay for it if they cook it. I was in shock he was buyingbthat when I have to clip coupons, bargain shop and hit several stores for things that they won't price match. There are a few things with the food stamp programs that really irritate me too. But I won't get into that.

Have any of you gone to the Tucson Gem Show? It is one of my favorite hobbies.(Next to Chickens)
It lasts 2 weeks and starts this weekend. I can't wait!
