Arizona Chickens

all this talk about incubators is making me crazy

it is the LAST thing i need, but i want one. i would surely be looking at a nice hospital stay if i just randomly purchased one(dh thinks this chicken hobby is looney enough). went to the quilt show yeterday and all i could see were chicken quilts EVERYWHERE! what has happened to me?

on a sad note, our little pullet Spice had to be put down yesterday morning. she started gasping and we knew it was time, she wasn't going to recover. the kids had a funeral for her after school and the 7 year old twins got down on their knees and prayed. my 4 year old wanted to ride his bike. boys.

The cheapest incubator is a broody hen - I've sure had my share of those (6 of them so far).

I just found a new home for my Ameraucana hen who's main goal in life is to raise babies (she was broody 4 times in a 6 month time span last year!). I'm done with chicks for awhile, since I bought my new dark egg layers, so I no longer appreciate the hens going broody on me. Even after rehoming the Ameraucana, I've still got 2 more pullets that started laying a few months ago and have already both gone broody (a little frizzle and an Ameraucana mix).

i raise delawares, red star also know as red sex-link
, buff orphington, barred rock chickens
we have a really nice delaware rooster
i know he is show quality and the chicks
can get great awards for the 4h contest
, i sold laying hens this
year and the people were very happy with the chickens
they even drove from tucson to mesa to buy my chickens

just got home from picking up the 3 each Rhode Island Reds & Ameraucanas.
they are lovely, healthy, friendly hens that were very calm during the LONG ride to their new home.
I left them eating, drinking, exploring the coop/run, and checking out the nesting boxes.

In the past week I've gone from no eggs for about two months to having every one of my six girls lay an egg! Egg songs fill the air! Yayyy! Molting is over!

We had a taste-test with the last of the store-bought eggs and the new eggs--none of us want to go back to store eggs.

i just got my first turkey eggs yesterday
my turkeys are starting to lay their first eggs this week
so far i have two turkey eggs, i raise standard bronze turkeys
blue slate,royal palm, and not to exaggerate by i am the
only person in all arizona to have mottled chocolate heritage turkeys
and auburn turkeys, they are awesome and they are in extinction
i want more breeders to join and conserve this breed
mottled chocolate turkeys and auburn turkeys
it cost me alot of money to buy these turkeys because
they are not many left in the united states
i was happy to find these turkeys only 300
mottled chocolate and auburn turkeys are left in the united states
lets conserve this breed, i understand that till march
the auburn and mottled chocolate turkeys will lay eggs
but its enought time for people to know this breed
